I think we've mentioned before too that the current basketball staff is on a value plan. It's not really worth comparing basketball coaches salaries right now if we don't acknowledge that they are being paid less than usual.

I know basketball is our top sport, but the salaries currently do not reflect that.

I will chalk it up mostly to a difference in the way schools budget and you can add a 1/3 just for benefits. That extra 1/3 is never reported on each coach but it is in the total cost. Some schools might be reporting benefits in the general fund because most coaches/staff are considered state employees. Some might be listing that cost under basketball....when they report.

It's also why reducing the number of staff is going to be the easiest way to reduce our budgets. It's easy to talk about travel expenses needing to be reduced. But even if you go to playing all regional games in all sports....

you still only going to cut $500,000 or so

It would still be nice to have an extra half a million for athletics.

If that's the case you must want Western back in the OVC or at the very least schedule all OOC games vs the OVC.

Boy that sounds great to me....just the thing needed to jump start me into writing a $1,400 check for 2 basketball tickets

there are easier and better ways to cut cost

Doesn't say that Stansbury paid him. Only that he was paid. And if you think WKU is paying players... where is that money coming from? Our budgetary concerns are well documented. Are you alleging that Stansbury pays them out of his own salary? I just want to be clear about the accusation here.

Juat to be clear.......

Stansbury was suspended at Austin Peay for cheating. To quote the AP: "The NCAA letter was the result of an internal investigation Austin Peay initiated ... That investigation led to the suspension of the assistant coach Rick Stansbury"

Players were allegedly paid while he was the head coach at Miss State, including paying $1500 just to talk to a player. People within the program have said he was let go to try and avoid sanctions.

Mitchell Robinsons was involved in the FBI case as receiving money and signed with Western Kentucky. “Robinson, who infamously left WKU, returned and then left for a final time in August to pursue other opportunities, is briefly mentioned in Yahoo's report.

The report says: "According to the documents, Dawkins has dinners listed with plenty of boldface names in the sport – Tom Izzo, 'Villanova coaches,'...and the family of wayward five-star prospect Mitchell Robinson."

While the dollar amount of the dinner is not included, Robinson never participated in NCAA competition for WKU, which means the school should not be at risk of any NCAA violations. Had Robinson stayed in school, the situation would have vastly different implications for both he and WKU.

Most of the players mentioned in the report seemed to have received payment before they committed to a school, which could exclude a lot of universities from being directly involved with these behaviors.“

It doesnt take rocket science to understand that stansbury was a cheater and continues to be a chester. You would have to be a fool to claim otherwise.

So Robinson had dinner with Dawkins. Excuse me, Robinson's FAMILY had dinner with Dawkins. If Dawkins was a sports agent then he probably had dinner with a LOT of players and or their families. That is not the same thing as saying Dawkins PAID Robinson or his family. And even if he did what is the connection to WKU / Stansbury? Has that ever been established? Maybe he was paying Robinson now in an effort to be his agent later and this had nothing to do with WKU.
After all this particular investigation was an Addidas thing, we're a Nike school? What does this really prove?

WKU told the Louisville Courier Journal that WKU had not been contacted in the FBI probe:

Quote:WKU told Courier Journal last month that its school administration had not been contacted by the FBI in an investigation into corruption in college basketball recruiting that has ensnared the University of Louisville and other programs.

It proves nothing.

The NCAA is rife with corruption. By hiring Stansbury as your head coach, WKU has positioned itself just a bit closer to the stench than other teams in the conference. But that does not make you complicit in any way.

Accusing a person (or program) of cheating is a serious charge. It shouldn't be made in the absence of clear proof. Being "in the vicinity" is not evidence of guilt. Gilesfan should temper his comments, unless and until actual proof emerges (which I, for one, do not expect in case of WKU).

Fair enough. And if WKU does come across evidence of this I hope we clean it out. But untill there is an actual accusation against Stansbury based on his time at WKU I would hope that posters on here would be fair to him.

Yea this Gilesfan may have a complete meltdown if we have any success at all this season...

Funny the guy who reported this was WKU's favorite guy Jeff Goodman who clearly hates Rick Stansbury....I am sure he was fishing, praying, hoping Sidney would call Stansbury out.....But even Sidney could not do that because my guess Stansbury had nothing to do with this....Gilesfan should worry about schools that actually can pay recruits 100's of thousand of dollars like Kansas, Duke, UK, etc. instead of worrying about us....But lets face it, no one is getting in trouble for any of this, NCAA will turn the other way because they know if they really investigated all of this the evidence and facts turned up would ruin their cash cow, so that will never happen....Already the trail has excluded any head coaches of wrong doing and pretty much putting schools as the victims and the sports agents as they corrupted people. They have LSU Head coach on tape but still he is not even in trouble and will not be because the agents are the bad guys...

Also Jeff Goodmans butt buddy is Bill Self so he is trying and on his knees to find anything else that can take the news off his best friend Bill Self at Kansas....

Stansbury has cheated before...suspended by Austin peay. Messy State player claims he was paid as well. Does anyone actually believe Robinson committed to WKY (with no money) when other schools offered him money? You guys cant be this oblivious, right?

The only deniability anyone has is “well there is no proof Stansbury actually handed the recruit money!”

What we know for a fact...Stansbury is a past cheater. Western Kentucky is a mid tier mid major school in the middle of nowhere. All of a sudden 4 and 5 star recruits think western kentucky is the best school for them :)

I dont really care about Western Kentucky, have zero feelings for them. As a college basketball fan, everyone knows they knowingly hired a cheater. . Its only a matter of time before they decide to “part ways.” The FBi is reportedly investigating Nike schools. There is a stench from Stansbury after ever school hes left. Ask misssissppi state fans.

I guess poor Stansbury.......people just dont like him!

For someone who doesn't care about WKU, half of your posts are about WKU. That sir makes you a "hater". Keep hating and throwing accusations that are not proven. You come off as a jealous spoiled child in your rants. You and Jeff Goodman need to go to therapy together so you can work through your obsession with WKU and Rick Stansbury together.......

I really think ODU should be under investigation. HOw in the world are they getting these transfers and high caliber recruits when daddy is assistant coach? Is dad giving his sons money to come to ODU? WHy would anyone want to play for ODU and Jeff JOnes and average 60 pts a game as Jeff holds up stop sign at half court...

Certainly has the appearance of impropriety. Like he said...4 and 5 start recruits all the sudden by magic think that Western is a diamond in the rough? What's the common denominator?

RE: Does WKU pay football players to come or only basketball players?
Mississippi St player claimed he and his parents were paid by agents. He never once mentions being paid by the school or school officials in this article being cited.

Mitchell Robinson was briefly mentioned as an agent having dinner with a family member of his. I would assume that family member would be ex WKU assistant coach Shammond Williams who contrary to reports was fired by Stansbury for trying to become Robinson's agent and convince him to go play pro overseas for a year before the NBA draft. This became well known on the AAU circuits.

You mention the fact that it being sketchy WKU all of the sudden landing 4 and 5 star recruits all the time. Because of the big boys and how they get their panties in a wad...I assure you everything is being done above board and within the confines of the rules. I know this because the NCAA will certainly snoop around when a CUSA school lands high profile recruits. In fact any team who signs a top 25 recruit nationally automatically has some sort of NCAA investigation go on.

I have tons of evidence that WKU is doing stuff above board. But I don't feel the need to air all the stuff out in a public forum or to try to prove a point to a moron that thinks he knows everything about a situation that he isn't even a party too.
