RE: Everything you need to know about CFB's new redshirt rule
As I read this, I still think of Butch Jones first year. He is short of receivers, and Munchie volunteers to burn his redshirt year for about a half dozen essentially meaningless snaps at wide receiver.
This rule won't fix "everything", nothing does.
Question for someone who understands both old and new rules. I seem to remember that the old "3 game" rule also involved injury. Is the new rule saying that if you play 4 games or less, you can redshirt - no injury needed? Are there other differences?
If so, that lets you play a lot of Freshmen enough to give them real game experience and still give them 5 years. It changes a lot of dynamics.

Based upon the article and the video., that's how I understand it (and this article was supposed to be everything you need to know ) . Prior to this I figured we'd redshirt Bryant and wouldn't see him until next year. But now we've got the option to put him in 4 games and still have 4 more seasons. Picking which 4 games to play a guy in opens up a host of strategic opportunities.

Great for Alabama - their national championship winning QB could possibly have 4 years of eligibility remaining.

It all depends whether or not they preserve the "Sit a year" requirement while transferring within the D1-FBS ranks. If that rule goes away, then this really opens the door for poaching by the "Big Boys" of the lower conferences and programs because you will have potentially more exposure from players to evaluate off of. Imagine if a kid shows real potential at UC in those four games and Ohio State can engineer a transfer for him without losing a year of eligibility... (Or Alabama, Auburn, or Penn State if Ohio State gives you heartburn.)

Eh, I don't the see it having that impact. If a kid at UC shows real potential as a RS freshman at UC in 4 games, we'll bust his redshirt anyway and play him all season if he helps us win. Of course he could still transfer after that season, but the 4 game rule shouldn't impact that and it would still be illegal to recruit a kid on another team's roster. I mean it's not like they don't already have their own 4* and 5* guys in their system who are most likely developing into real players as well and/or recruiting the same type who haven't learned any bad habits at their current school.
All in all, I think it works in the favor of players staying in their current program.as it gives them a chance to get more involved and show what they can do and what they really need to work on based upon actual game competition rather than just watch others.

I hope you are correct.
