FSU would be a great SEC fit, but they don’t want to join. Clemson’s another misfit too, and, unlike FSU, I think Clemson would join.
Again, I think we are mixing culture with geography. Just referring to geography, Miami fits the SEC because its in Florida, like the Gators.
But I agree that culturally, Miami is a natural independent. They don't have a history with any conference including the SEC. They sit down there on the tip of the country, closer to Cuba, the Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, Jamaica, and Haiti than they are to half the SEC teams. They really are kind of an island unto themselves, like Notre Dame.
FSU? I disagree, if they got an SEC invitation and could get out of the ACC without excessive damage like Maryland did, they'd jump at the chance, like Clemson.
This.
Bowden blew it but that mistake would not be made again, if available, GOR or not.

Arizona State: Time to go rogue

Have you looked at the P12N content? If you did, you would immediately understand why viewership, even in markets like Seattle, Portland, San Francisco Bay Area, and LA Basin are so low. The offerings are terrible, and viewership has no reason to go there outside of some big football game. As a result advertising is close to ZERO revenue. That is the most immediate place they can make money and considerable.
Compare the content to the SECN or BTN before you make such a blanket comment.
They could spike advertising with some tweaks but I see that as a drop in the bucket.
For the P12 Network the big issue has been carriage fee negotiations if I remember correctly. What’s going to spike demand for the network where everyone in LA, SF, Phoenix, Denver, Salt Lake, Portland, and Seattle all are willing to pay their cable providers more per month to carry that network on more carriers for better rates?

It was a great move for FSU. They dominated the ACC and became a national power.

They dominated the ACC, but by 1992 FSU was already a power.
