Can’t blame ‘em. Maybe Troy should look into doing this also. Couldn’t hurt.

Not everyone will be able to do this. I think it says a lot about how NKU is seen. As in, they are well liked by others and may have a high ceiling.

This is the best way to announce a low-midmajor OOC game.

But you need two sports info departments with strong social-media games. UMBC almost has to go this way after they made their name during the UVa. game.

You also need powerful info departments. What if the two accounts scheduled a game and the coach vetoed it?

I'm guessing the two ADs already agreed to the game and the media relations folks decided to use Twitter to have more fun in announcing it than a simple tweet that reads: "Northern Kentucky will host 2018 NCAA Tournament Second-Round Participant UMBC on Nov. 30 #NorsingAround. No chance they're doing this without the contract already having been signed.

Oh! I didn’t even think of that. I just assumed the two twitters chatted up and booked a game on the schools’ behalf.

I agree that this was not ad hoc, it was a planned release of information between the two schools, in a fun way.

I think Twitter is a dumpster fire and their business model is a failure waiting to happen, but that exchange was fun.

It requires a deft hand though. Too often these simulated exchanges, in social media or in advertisements, are wooden, unrealistic and downright cringey. Wendy's runs their SM with a sense of "call the cops I don't give a ****" and that brings a credibility to their exchanges.

If they don't figure out how to make money, it won't be here to stay.

Twitter is fun, but their business model is awful. That being said, a school like UMBC can make money for themselves using Twitter, by using the platform to attract more fans to games.

Twitter has a market cap of $35B, its founders are all billionaires, and is the main communication media for the President and many top celebrities. If that's struggling I'd like to be struggling.

All cool but it has had one profitable QUARTER.
