Talked about the new rule changes as well as the bowl rumblings-the big hits:

-He was asked what he felt would the Belt's bowl situation after 2019 going into 2020 and he speculates that the only certainty is that the New Orleans and the upcoming Myrtle Beach bowl will be SBC tie ins and the "other three would be up for grabs".

-McMurphy also stated he's confident that the Sunbelt and Arizona would go there separate ways now that NMSU and Idaho are no longer in the conference.

-He then predicts it will be New Orleans, Myrtle Beach, Cure, Dollar General and Camellia but wouldn't be surprised if Cure/DG/Camellia is replaced with another bowl.

-Brad asks him about the rumor that the American wants out of the Cure bowl and McMurphy confirmed he had not only heard those rumors but stated he was told the American wants to send their champions to the Liberty (and if they had the opportunity to add Liberty and needed to drop a bowl, the Cure Bowl would be the one to go). However he then stated he would be "totally shocked" if the sunbelt wasn't a part of the Cure Bowl come 2020.

-The discussion moves onto to the discussion regarding whether the group of 5 conference champs should be matched up in bowls or continue to face foes from the Power 5 that finished middle to the bottom in their leagues. BM says there isn't a right or wrong answer but the G5 leagues need to decide which is better in the grand scheme of things, and insinuates it might be better and marketable to have certain bowls that matchup with G5 champs rather than 6-6, 7-5 P5 foes (which he says they'd rather not play anyways).

Given we have 10 teams I think 5 bowl tie ins is a very reasonable number. The Arizona Bowl has been good to us so far but with the exception of Texas St it's a little far for the fans to travel to so it makes sense to drop that one.

Given the way DG operates, I don't see them dumping the SBC. MAC on the other hand is another story.

Myrtle Beach trading for Arizona seems like a fair trade off in the end.

New Orleans, Myrtle Beach, Orlando, Mobile, and Montgomery are pretty sweet locations for the conference for the most part! Not sure about Montgomery but the other four cities are a lot of fun.

Would be great to trade the Arizona Bowl and the Camellia Bowl for a bowl in Texas and the Myrtle Beach bowl. I’d like to keep the other three though.

I actually started a thread on the realignment board about how easy it would be for the SBC, CUSA, MAC, and MWC Champions and runner ups to play each other in our current bowl tie-ins.

I would rather see Troy play a 6-6/7-5 Iowa State, Texas Tech, Rutgers, Purdue even a mediocre UCF, USF, ECU, Navy, Memphis, etc then a good FAU, MTSU, BGSU, NIU, WMU, etc. Wouldn't mind playing a mediocre S Miss, Marshall, maybe LA Tech though (so its not a CUSA or MAC bias)... it's more about an individual program's brand and perception and that's why S Miss got to play Fla St last year.

It's just not that exciting destroying teams like Ohio, UNT, Rice, when you could also play a 7-5 Iowa St or Rutgers, or probably more realistic: an AAC team. Of course, geography also matters a lot.

Beating a 6 or 7 win P5 school, that likely has a losing record in their conference, does nothing for Troy. P5 denfenders will tell you those team were uninterested anyway. At least beating a good USM or FAU would get you respect as a G5. The only bowl game you can win that will get you national recognition is the handpicked BS playoff.

Shoot. Even for us it's far. 13 hours from San Marcos. I'm pretty sure all the other bowls but the Cure are closer.

So you are saying, you would rather play 8-4 or 9-3 Bowling Green State than 6-6 Texas Tech, TCU or West Virginia? I guarantee you, the Trojan nation, Troy Athletic Dep, players and coaches, recruits would be pretty excited playing a 6-6 Big 12 team in a bowl game... Southern Miss played Florida State in a bowl game last year. We would agree to playing 6-6 FSU in North Korea if necessary...

Troy may get up for it, but the P5 schools have little to no interest in playing these games. There's a reason why few bowls that G5 teams participate in include P5 teams at all. However, dude was right. Beating a 6-6 Texas Tech team when you've won 10 games isn't going to get you any clout.

Yup. AAC teams have certainly fed off of beating 6-6 P5 teams in bowls. South Florida beat a marginal South Carolina team and the next year they're the favorite for the Access Bowl.

AAC teams are at another level. Programs like ECU, UCF, USF, etc are probably a decade or more ahead of us. It would take another ten years of producing winning records, winning bowl games, some signature wins and Top 25 appearances, improved recruiting classes, attendance increases and facility upgrades to get near to their levels (and you still wouldn't quite get there, your brand would be at the level of Marshall and Southern Miss but not quite at top AAC level). USF playing 6-6 South Carolina in a bowl game won't do much for them. However, GA Southern playing and beating 6-6 South Carolina in a bowl game...you guys would be certainly excited. This would generate more fan interest, help recruiting, increase regional media coverage, definitely helps more than playing a 9-3 MAC team (again).

I don't understand why people are so eager to drop the Camellia Bowl. The city really supports the game, and while it isn't full of entertainment options there is enough to do for a weekend trip. I've noticed most of the fans saying we should drop it have never been there so maybe y'all would feel different if your team plays there.

USF is not a favorite for the Access Bowl. 6-6 P5 teams in bowls do nothing for any G5...even the AAC.
The best credit for beating a P5 is during the regular season when the team you play are quite a bit better than the bowl team that is played...especially for a conference champ.

However, I understand why you guys may think so being as such you have never had a bowl game with #8 or #11 P5 school in a conference.

A G5 conference champ, or a 10-2 runner up, I’d prefer to see them play either a champ or runner up of another G5 or an 8 win team at least from a P5. No reason for a G5 champ to play a 6-6 P5 team, that means nothing. But I’d love to see a P5 tie in somewhere, of course we still have to win the game to mean anything.

I’m sure it’s fun but we don’t need two bowl games in Alabama. It would be better for the western teams to trade that bowl for a game in Texas. Plus the HoD bowl or Frisco bowl are slightly higher caliber than the Camellia anyways. It would boost our conference profile. It’s all hypothetical of course.
