Update 6-18: UofM signed 5 year extension in Nov., '17 - Boise New Nike Deal
How will the new Nike deal with Memphis compare to what Boise State just got? 6 Years / $12 Million: https://www.idahopress.com/blueturfsport...5b1c9.html

"Boise State and Nike agreed to a six-year contract extension Tuesday that will pay the school $12.16 million in both cash and products for each of the school’s 20 varsity programs. It’s scheduled to begin next June and run until June 2025.

The current deal between Boise State and Nike, which expires on June 30, 2019, paid the Broncos $7.9 million in product over the six years."

On average - Do football deals or ones where it's primarily the football program that drives the deal earn more than basketball driven deals? Don't know but it may be a factor if you want to compare these two deals -

Yes, the large contracts are big brand football schools with the main exception (off the top of my head) being Louisville and Adidas. W/o reviewing the Boise deal it's close to what Memphis got under Cal...something like $11m+ extras for events and such.

From Mark G. in April with the details of the Penny contract: https://www.commercialappeal.com/story/s...484960002/

"Hardaway said previously that he will not have to give up his sponsorship deal with Nike or his ownership stake with the Memphis Grizzlies now that he's the head coach at Memphis. The university's apparel contract with Nike, which is currently worth $1.5 million annually, expires at the end of this school year."

Since the school year has ended, I am guessing that the contract has expired. I wonder if the school will announce anything. Usually you do not let something expire without having something in place going forward.

U of M contracts usually run with their fiscal year, July 1st to June 30th.

Nike does good work. Memphis has been on TV a lot as well. Good brand recognition, now. Then add in Penny on the basketball side. I wonder what they'll good. I bet it multiplies at least twice.

Cincinnati got 4.7 mill per for 10 years with UA. a couple years ago, maybe when B12 looked more promising. Can't tell what Wichita State got last year with UA. Looks like UH gets 1.3 per.

How long is Penny's contract? I can imagine a scenario where it will track that. If he is jettisoned for performance or whatever, the value decreases, even from only the name association alone

Interesting. Memphis doesn't have much leverage … they can't really seriously threaten to leave. If Nike wanted to they could probably low ball us. Not saying they will, but they could.

Football drives everything. Basketball is secondary in every aspect.

Would be interesting to see a full list of all contracts. The link above is just P5 and it's a couple years old. Compare a few Boise, BYU, Navy (football schools) to Villanova, Gtown, Xavier (basketball schools).

Does football even really make money for Nike?

Basketball is where the shoe money is.
