Little did we realize at the time that that would be the beginning of a downward trend that has resulted in a current 7 year drought of NCAAT appearances. We used to be pretty good. I long for the day when we return, whenever that may be.

Yes, there is the obvious, and behind that would be the Doc Holiday era.

1. DH is responsible for the worst debacle (wvu at home in 2010) in Marshall sports history, among countless other debacles (like opting for field goals in OT against VT in a rain storm).
2. DH is responsible for not one, but the top TWO worst HOME blowout losses in Edward's stadium history (against UCF & WKU).
3. DH is THE most fraudulent recruiter in MU history and probably all of college football. 3 of his top 5 recruits each year NEVER see the field (and he knows that ahead of time). 5 of his top 10 NEVER see the field. And it shows. Out talented to the tune of 3-9 2 years ago and even last year in a poor conference. His one and only redeemable value was that he was this "great recruiter". He produces very little NFL talent and regularly get's out recruited when all said and done in one of the worst conferences in college football.
4. DH regular season records through the years; 5-7, 6-6, 5-7, 3-9, 7-5 and then had 3 10 win season when conference got gutted, combined with ultra conservative play calling led to the BIGGEST EXODUS of Marshall football fans in program history. Last year's home attendance hit a 20 year or more low.
5. Went 3-9 just 2 years ago in THE worst conference in I-A college football.
6. In almost 40 YEARS of coaching Has NEVER been offered a Head Coaching job at ANY LEVEL other than at Marshall.
7. Imagine your team regularly punting on your opponent's 38, imagine never seeing a trick play (or even motion), imagine other coaches saying how simplistic your offense is, imagine running clock on a slim lead beginning of 3rd quarter (so you can get off field and go to bed), imagine having a head football coach who acts like he hates playing the game. That is what Marshall fans have seen for 8 years now.
8. DH's Record against teams with a pulse is utterly abysmal. After 8 years in the game, and after a 3-6 campaign, STILL could not beat one team in regular season with a winning record last year.

Tell us how you really feel. Have you checked Pruitt’s record against MAC teams with winning records? Just saying.

This was in 1982 and has plagued NT ever since. NT went from a period with three straight first round NFL draft picks and a very successful too short Hayden Fry era to almost total irrelevance as a 1aa team. Although NT returned to D1 in 1995, it is just now IMO recovering from that almost fatal athletic decision.

No one loss or bad season in any sport can come close.

This was REALLY REALLY bad, but also I would like to point out our loss to FCS Portland State 66-7 on homecoming. And yes PSU scored 66 straight against us & then we got a garbage time TD. It’s the worst loss in college football history of an FBS to an FCS team. It had a positive note after though, in that we fired our HC & AD.

I am going to give two. One my personal worst and one for me as a UTEP fan.

My personal worst was losing a three set tennis match to the #1 18 and under boys doubles team in winter nationals. My partner and I were up 6-5 in the third set and I didn't hold up under the pressure as we lost in a tie breaker. One of the guys on the other team went on to win 2 Wimbledon doubles titles.

My worst as a UTEP fan was when Kevin Nixon from BYU made a half court shot as time ran out in the finals of the WAC tournament in 1992.

RE: Worst moment in your athletic history
For me, it's not a particular game. The worst day in Niner history was the day Charles Hayward passed away. At the time, I believe he was the highest ever rated Niner basketball recruit. He missed his freshman year 97-98 due due to a leukemia diagnoses. He fought back and played the first ten games of the 98-99 season until he suffered a relapse and the disease returned. He passed away Sept 99 at only 21 years of age. The Niner's practice gym is named in his honor.

You must have had your head in the sand though the Snyder era and have been too young to remember the Randle era.

I'd put The loss to KState at home due to throwing an interception instead of centering the ball and kicking the winning field goal right up there with the WVU debacle. In fact, it's worse because KState was Big 12 then when it mattered before it was infected with the 'Eers and Horny toads.

Absolutely.

2012 is a year I'd like to forget. What sucks about that is this was the first football season in a loooong time in which I was off on weekends (started new job) so I was super pumped about being able to tailgate and attend every game. However, I had a weird feeling after that first game vs. Nebraska when E-LOSS Johnson said something like "At halftime I knew we weren't going to win the game so I decided to give a bunch of younger guys some playing time"...mind you, we were only down like 2 possessions or something like that. Still blows my mind when I look back at the talent we had on that team. There were so many guys on that team that are now in the NFL. Truly mind-boggling.

Short History but that 4th and 29 against Towson; with a minute to go in 4th quarter....

I Hope ODU fans didn't forget that one....

Not only that but i think Butler faced VCU in final four where ODU beat VCU 2-1 that season??

We had one of the strongest team that year..

No I fully remember the Snyder years. And that's what makes the Doc years so bad, Doc has hit more lows in a much, MUCH easier conference. For example, 1,2, & 3...and he had the exact same records as Snyder against similar competition (i.e. Doc's first 3 years).

That one is second IMO. Punting away a 16 point lead at HOME with 8 minutes left to a national ranked bitter instate rival is MUCH worse to me.

Snyder had his lows...Doc has found a way to due worse in almost every area.

For example...Doc not Snyder owns not only the top spot, but the top two spots for worst HOME losses and in a much easier conference to boot.

Snyder had his KState...Doc had the much worse wvu debacle.

Another thing I forgot to add, Doc runs the most soft, butthurt, overly sensitive, secretive football staff we've EVER seen as well. Reporters get blackballed if they dare ask a real question. Only softballs allowed for Doc and staff. Doc looked scared out of his mind when having to answer questions from real reporters from the Denver media at the bowl game.

LA Tech's Sweet 16 loss to Oklahoma in OT in 1985 was a heartbreaker. Wayman Tisdale took OU's last shot from the baseline, and the ball rolled around the rim for about 3 seconds before finally falling thru the net with 2 seconds left in OT. You can see the shot at the 1:54 mark of the video below. This was Karl Malone's last game for LA Tech.
