Cool. Hopefully Orlando City stadium can host a few games.

Best damn Soccer specific stadium in the U.S. - and ALL built with private funds.

Quote:Twenty-three proposed cities were included in the winning bid -- 17 from the United States, three from Mexico and three from Canada. That list will be whittled down to 16 host cities by the bid committee and FIFA. In addition to Miami, the U.S. cities are Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York/New Jersey, Orlando, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C.

When the World Cup was in the U.S. back in 94', they had a few games at the Citrus Dump so OCSC hosting at least one game is a no-brainer, imo.

RE: Cup Runneth Over
One reason FIFA likes to come to the US with the world cup is that we have many more huge stadiums than most other countries. Most of the games here did not sell out, but I believe that 1994 still holds the attendance records. I know it did a few years ago. For example, the five largest stadiums in France are Stade de France, Paris, 81,000; Velodrome, Marseilles, 67,000; Parc Olympique, Lyon, 59,000; Stade Pierre-Mauroy, Lille, 50,000; and Parc de Princes, Paris, 48,000.
The B1G or SEC could host and put those stadiums to shame.

The 1994 edition of the tournament set records for total (3,587,538 fans) and average attendance (68,991 per match) that stand to this day. This is despite the fact that it was a 24-team tournament that contained just 52 games, as opposed to the 64 that have been played in each edition since. The larger stadiums in all three countries, as well as the additional games, should see those records shattered. The United Bid is projecting average crowds of 72,500 over the 80 games.

Only 10 of the 17 U.S. cities will make the final cut in 2020. NYC, LA, Seattle (if Vancouver is not one of the 3 Canadian cities), Boston (?) and DC are probably gimmes. Maybe Dallas too because it will have the biggest stadium and Miami is probably in that first tier of 7 cities. I'd say the other US cities are all vying for the last 3 locations.

(and I'm not really sure why the mods deleted my first thread on this subject from earlier this morning - the World Cup is certainly as political as any sporting event except perhaps the Olympics).
