Out of pure curiosity how many of y'all would like to see your teams play NMSU as an Out of conference team?

Right now we have Texas St.m Georgia Southern, and Louisiana-Lafayette on our schedule for the next couple of years.

It would be nice to see some games with other Sun Belt teams in Football (also basketball but that is a side note).

Still wouldn’t be shocked to see Astate and NMSU schedule future home and home deals down the line

I would like that honestly. After last game it was pretty close for a decent part. Barring an upset, I think these game would be pretty good, especially since we have a decent defensive coordinator with Frank Spaziani.

Side note I did hear that Arkansas State backed us up for Sun Belt membership so I expect some sports related events in the next few years.

Honestly, I'm rooting for yall in the whole realignment thing, but I don't really care if we play yall or not.

I'm betting most, if not all, teams would like to play you. Distance, time, and expense is the problem I suspect.

I would have liked to seen some sort of Notre Dame-ACC type football alliance between NMSU and the SBC. 4-5 SBC games a year and access to our bowls. Maybe synced that with some basketball and baseball games.

You guys keep up the success from last year, and it will all be ok. 04-cheers

I don’t see ULM scheduling NMSU unless they’re paying extra. Scheduling for ULM is 2 Money, 1 G5 semi regional game, and one FCS. We don’t have any players from that area and New Mexico isn’t a recruiting hot spot. Playing Memphis, USM, UNT, type teams is the way Coach V is trying go with G5 opponents. I hope they can land in the MWC that makes the most sense. How does UNM feel about NMSU being in MWC? I know Louisiana Tech would try to block us from being in the same conference. I’ve also seen some of their fans say they’d rather be independents than be in a conference with ULM.

We'd schedule you in basketball RIGHT NOW.

Tell your coaches to make it happen.

Obviously GS has no problem with scheduling NMSU.

And when NMSU was still in the Sun Belt, GS was the furthest east school which meant our travel costs were more than anyone else and we still were fine with rescheduling y'all. Wish NMSU was still in the Sun Belt.

Now that would be something I would love to see. A home and home series would be perfect. It may happen in the future especially since we already have football games lined up with y'all.

Excluding P5 Home and Homes, there are many I think would be more in App State's interests to play, not necessarily in this order: ECU, Charlotte, Marshall, UAB, Cincinnati, USF, UCF, FIU, FAU, UConn, MTSU, WKU, UAB, ODU, Ohio, N. Illinois, Toledo (why not?).

NMSU makes more sense to play Western SBC teams and MW teams.

I completely agree. I am glad that we have at least one Eastern opponent who wants to play us. It would be interesting if more Western division opponents picked us up for football or any other sport.

I rather see New Mexico State than the FCS schools we schedule once every year

NMSU has not had an FCS opponent since 2014. I would loved to have seen how GSU would have matched up against NMSU last year. Would have been a helluva game.

I have a feeling that home/home will happen between our schools. I think we would match up well in both football and basketball. Besides, travel to/from Atlanta is super easy...location isnt really a factor for us

Agreed. It was damn close that we lost the second time against y'all. I'm sure that both schools are similar in talent in football. Should be interesting basketball as well. Should be really interesting in basketball especially since NMSU plays against KU. Atlanta to El Paso isnt bad. Here's hoping we see each other in the future.

If we do that, why would we not invite them as a full member? The ACC wanted Notre Dame as a full member, but Notre Dame was not interested. This is the best the ACC could get. On the other hand, NMSU wanted to be a full member and we were not interested (or at least the majority was not interested.)

RE: Semi-Football Affiliates
NMSU can thank Tulsa for the series with TXST.

Tulsa was supposed to play us in San Marcos this year, but backed out last summer.
NMSU's newfound independence meant they needed games so we were able to fill our annual non-conference G5 home game with the Aggies, and the Aggies were able to get a return game to Las Cruces out of it in 2020.

Without Tulsa backing out I'm not sure this series would have happened though.
