Wow. Good job. The answer folks. Doesn't Canada have a majority of the world's nickel. Not gonna Google it

Whose wages and why would they increase?

restrict labor ...
increase demand ...

There's more to it than that, but I get what you are saying.....

Stainless steel, jet turbine blades, batteries, etc. From memory, Canada is a major supplier of nickel. I'm not sure it is present in the United States in any significant quantities

If the rest of the world became like something out of Mad Max, then America would be fine. If America became like something out of Mad Max, the rest of the world is screwed.

The main points are: 1) The world does need us; 2) Geography/resources means we don't need the world nearly as much; 3) to the world's surprise, we elected to protect it after WWII, in exchange for nothing other than trade (see Bretton Woods). America has been growing its indifference to Bretton Woods in the last couple of decades and now has someone in office who is not just indifferent but appears to have some animosity toward that framework.

I don't know what it would entail exactly to become "autonomous" but I think we're about to find out.

that's the guy's name. tnx

Nickel is underrated. Lol. It's pretty important. It's the metal we take for granted. Poor thing.

RE: does america need the rest of the world?
America for sure needs a far less amount than any other country. Lets keep in mind that we are the largest market for goods on the planet....by a large percentage. Id say others need us more than we need them. It is time we start using that leverage to our advantage and even the playing fields that we have allowed to tilt away from us.

Nickel is used for plating material such as copper that gets made into bus for things such as power systems, switching gears, etc.

Those components are used by industries such as solar, electrical generation, etc.

Yeah, it's pretty important.

Sure. Minimum wage at the magical $15/hr but we're paying $10 for a cheeseburger.

Not exactly a trade off, just the same economics at a higher scale.
