The city of Oakland is suing the Raiders and the NFL!!!!
The lawsuit is based on St. Louis lawsuit vs the Rams and the NFL, and I'm hearing from a Raiders fansite that the Raiders name, crest, and colors will stay with City of Oakland!!! I hope it does happen, for Oakland's sake.Oakland's lawsuit vs the Raiders and the NFL

Sounds good to me except it should be split between both LA and Oakland.

That's not going to work this time around. The Browns were a unique case were many owners were sympathetic to Cleveland's dilemma. No one cares about Oakland.

They're still considering it, haven't definitely decided to file, according to this article. The law firms filing the lawsuit would pay for the suit in exchange for a percentage of the recovery. They would be asking for compensation, not to force the team to stay.

https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/arti...750980.php

Quote:In a nutshell, the law firms approached the city and county with the idea of filing an antitrust suit against the league and the team. Lawyers from the firms — Berg & Androphy in Houston and Weil, Gotshal & Manges of New York — recently flew to Oakland and asked local officials to add up how much they expect the Raiders’ exit will cost taxpayers.
Quote:Gallo estimated the total losses could be as high as $500 million.

What exactly is the point here?

To preserve the name and logo in the event another NFL team moves to town? Because I don't see that happening.

Unless the City of Oakland somehow owns at least a share of the name, colors, and/or any trademarks or other intellectual property with the organization, I don't see how they have any standing. In my opinion, the point is moot. Only if the NFL and others in power sympathize with the city do I see this holding any water. Unlike the Browns, the Raiders are known for moving and threatening to move. They even won a championship as the Los Angeles Raiders. The Browns were in Cleveland for 15 seasons prior to the Raiders playing so the roots were even deeper. Even more, the Browns are the namesake of Paul Brown who spent nearly his entire life in Ohio coaching Ohio St for 3 seasons and 1 national championship, the Cleveland Browns for 18 seasons for 7 championships, and the Cincinnati Bengals for 8 seasons.

i mean if i was the home of a team and they suddenly got good and decided to leave. i would be upset as well. I feel bad for the hardcore raiders fans. That were with the every step of the way.

Brokeland will be losing the Warriors too as their new Arena (not in Oakland) is finished
The A's will stay only if they get a ball park
Brokeland is not a major league city anyway

In part because the Bay Area skews toward San Francisco and there isn't room for two teams per sport like there used to be in that region.

If Oakland really wanted to, it could get some decent support, and yes, I tend to believe that the name & colors & history will stay with Mark Davis, whose whole point of moving to Vegas was partly to reconnect with LA Raiders fans. However, Oakland did have another fairly successful franchise after the Raiders and I don’t see why Oakland could not bring it back: the Oakland Invaders, its old USFL franchise. What ultimately doomed the Invaders was the collapse of the USFL and truthfully, nothing else. Had the Invaders been a NFL franchise instead of a USFL franchise, they would still be around today, IMO.

I forgot that the founder's son is still the owner. Between that and the team having moved and been successful elsewhere, they have little chance. The best they'll be able to do is ensure they can't move to any other market aside from Vegas, Oakland and LA and keep the colors.
