Eh,... huh? Lots of SJJ grads at UT. A couple on this board. Now of course, Valedictorian doesn't necessarily mean top SAT in the school but it probably means really, really good, as well a competitive person.
But even if you're correct, then maybe there's been a purposeful change. People on the board have said, this Admin is hitting the streets. I suspect these are not the only Validictoreans from the area, headed towards UT.
In these threads my common theme is, for a mid-sized lower exposure University like UT to compete, they have to find a way they can provided something top students and young researchers won't get at an Ivy or B10 type and that's the opportunity to skip right into the dynamic stuff, the research. That's what UT offered and the kids took it.
Goes with my "rant" on how they're using land. Re-done athletic fields are nice but those do not raise a University's exposure. Use them for young research to market space. But now I've been told a facility they have, which has high potential in that area, is sitting practically unused. If correct, then I'd be turning that space over to exactly those types I'm trying to attract, particularly domestic. Kids, you're good at programming. Come to UT and for the next four years, this virtual reality environment is yours to play with. Researchers you want to get your research to market, these kids are yours.
