That should give everybody time to watch this, then amble over to Reckling for the 2:00 PM game. The one time I came down to see this double, I had to to leave one early to get to the other one late.
Why not make it a triple header by ambling over to the Rice Track and Soccer Stadium to watch the J. Fred Duckett Meet? Running finals on the track start at 6:00 p.m. with the 4x100 meter relay.

RE: Spring Football 2018
Some points about practice
1. Very organized. Very little standing around. All facets of the game were gone through in two hours accept the kick off team. You better know your position and responsibility or you could get lost in the system. It would been fun to play for This Coach. You won’t be bored.
2. Tyner looked good as our quarterback but not much behind him. Hopefully, the transfer from Wake Forest will bring sone competition to the quarterback spot.
3. The punting game looked good. Each has a different style which could make a difference in the game. I wont go into details
4. Various high school coaches (Cinco Ranch, Sweeny, others) and players were observing and learning.
5. Our skilled players looked good but hard to grade at a practice.
6. There was a lot of situations being looked at the (long yardage, short yardage, goal line , etc) in short time intervals of 5 to 10 minutes.
It will be very interesting how fast these players can pick up everything. I am sure a lot has not been shown them yet but i bet it is coming after watching how everything is so organized.

Why not? Is there something to keep secret, or is it just too complicated?
Otherwise, thanks for the report.

Music to my ears
For Emmanuel Esukpa, the biggest in their stable of halfbacks, practices are longer, more physical, and far more competitive. If offensive players can’t produce, they do push-ups; if defensive players can’t get a stop, they do push-ups; either way, everyone is ready to hit.

More re Smalls transfer: He’s heading to Independence (as he said on Twitter)..it’s a community college in southeast Kansas that will be featured in szn 3 of Netflix’s Last Chance U. He’s looking for a “change of pace/new environment” according to new coach Jason Brown.

Wonder if the show will go into why he had to leave... After watching the previous seasons I can’t even imagine a transition from Rice to a school like that. It’s like elementary school level work and the kids still have trouble keeping their grades up and going to class.

I guess we will probably never know, but I do wonder. I never thought he was the answer at QB, but he was athletic enough to contribute to much needed improvement somewhere on the field if a better QB comes along. Seems like either something happened and Bloomgren didn't renew the scholarship, or Smalls had some personal reasons to want a change (didn't want to change positions/compete with all the incoming guys and the guys he felt like he already beat out, didn't like the school environment, something else going on off the field). I wish him the best.

It's not at all elementary school level, and many of the students are having to balance school, work, and family. They're often much more intelligent at life and generally more mature than the kids who go off to four-year universities. As for Smalls, it's possible he just didn't like it at Rice. He may see an opportunity that we don't, and Rice isn't enough to keep him from pursuing it.

Have you watched last chance U? I’m sure guys who commit armed robbery and rape are more mature and ‘smarter at life’ than Rice kids. And no that’s not the case, Smalls didn’t have input in this decision.
The kids who didn’t commit a crime and were just academically ineligible couldn’t maintain a 2.0 or get a 16 on the ACT. When they go to these schools and magically become eligible I wonder what level that work is?

I don't know anything, nor do I care anything about Last Chance U. Your post insinuated that junior college classes are at an elementary level, and that the students still can't 'seem make the grades and attend class. It's a blanket statement. I just want to be sure that you understand some of the challenges that many JC students face. They tend to be of disadvantaged backgrounds. Their lives are much more challenging in a variety of ways than almost any kid who gets to leave home and go off to a university. Contrary to what many may think, JC students do tend to be more mature and more intelligent. They have challenges in life that demand it.

Oh please, the post I responded to said he is transferring to a show that is filming season 3 of last chance U. Watch the show. I’m clearly talking about the players who ended up in a situation like that (see Smalls).
If kids get kicked out of schools like FSU then go to JUCO in Mississippi or Kansas and become eligible I wonder what level those classes are... https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2726...rade-level

I appreciate the clarification. It sounded like a knock on junior colleges and the students who attend them. Those classes you're referring to are remedial. No credit hours are awarded, but passing them does keep athletes eligible. They're designed to catch students up to college-level work.

Has this OL transfer from the University of Florida been mentioned anywhere yet?
@MarkBermanFox26
Florida offensive lineman @AndrewMike77, from @GatorsFB, announced on Twitter he's transferring to @RiceFootball . 6-6, 301 pounds. Grad transfer, immediately eligible. Says he wants to continue his education in the bioscience and health policy masters program.
EDIT: The transfer is noted in the 2nd recruiting class thread above. Regardless, Mike is a former 3-star on Rivals
