One of the things I remember most vividly about Chad's interviews this spring was CLF talking about finding "those 5 linemen". Most programs are looking for 8 to 10 guys that can sub out for each other. Most every O lineman gets dinged up and needs some time on the sidelines. (Good interviews Chad. More please.)

My impression is that we have very little depth available right now. Winning programs rest their "grade A" linemen with their B+ guys. It looks like we will be resting our "grade B" guys with our "C-" guys. Or we plan to leave starters in until they drop. (I hope I am proven overly pessimistic.)

Next on the offense, we need receivers who can separate, get open, stretch the field, and hold onto the ball. That was a big part of making Gunner look so good a couple of years ago. Somebody was always open, and there were very few drops.

It would have been nice to get a more talented QB in here, even if just for a graduate year. However, without the OL and WR upgrades, any QB may look mundane. And yes, I suspect that was a factor in Burrow's decision process.

He desperately needs to fix he O line and QB positions. What sane QB would transfer to UC with our O line?

The problem is that WR/RB/CB/LB are a dime a dozen. High level OL are not and they all mostly go to P5 schools.

It really isn't about getting high level OLmen, because we never will. It's about developing who we have got...and that's something the prior regime did a TERRIBLE job with.

Think about the best OLmen we've had in the last decade or so:

Deyshawn Bond: 2/3* OL
Tyreek Burwell: 2/3* JUCO OL
Parker Ehinger: 2/3* OL
Korey Cunningham: 2* TE
Eric Lefeld: 2* TE
Idarius Ray: 2/3* JUCO OL
Sean Hooey: 2* OL
Cory Keebler: 1* OL
Jason Kelce: Walk-on Linebacker

I'm not asking for 4* guys, because it just is not easy to evaluate all of the OLmen out there, many good ones fall through the rating services' reviews because there are just so dang many of them. We just need to get bodies in here and coach them up like we have done for years...Crook seems to be good at the coaching part, andt we were VERY thin on the recruiting side just getting bodies on campus under Tubs, so OL has been a position of weakness these last two years

We brought in only 8 OLmen on scholarship in 4 years under Tubs...that's not even enough to fill a two-deep, and that doesn't even factor into play that three left the program and one passed away. To contrast, we've brought in 6 (7 depending on what happens with O'Quinn) in 1.5 years of Fickell. We were operating under the transfer/walk-on/position change policy for far too long under Tubs, and it's coming to roost now with how thin we are in experienced OL play. We simply need to go back to getting guys every year who played OL and are quality and we seem to be doing that. The musical chairs we had at the position really hurt, as there were three OL coaches in 4 years under Tubs, which made it hard for the players to truly develop...but here's hoping we can have some stability there now.

On a completely different note, I would argue that CB is the biggest hit or miss position to recruit...not a dime a dozen position as you say. That's part of why we're going after so many...if we hit on 25% of them, we've got two stellar CBs for the next 4 years with how many we've got...the others will be serviceable backups, nickelbacks, or transitional depth for STs.
