RE: Grizz Draft Options
The next week is going to be crazy. From Givony's article: http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/23791...rained-hip
"Former Missouri forward Michael Porter Jr. canceled his second pro day in Chicago on Friday because of a strained hip, sources told ESPN. Porter couldn't get out of bed because of muscle spasms, according to the sources.
. . .
NBA teams had been invited to bring their own trainers and doctors to evaluate the former No. 2 high school recruit prior to the start of the now-canceled workout -- an unusual step to prove he is healthy.
Regardless, Porter's camp appears to feel comfortable with his stock. The Sacramento Kings (No. 2), Memphis Grizzlies (No. 4) and Dallas Mavericks (No. 5) are interested in Porter, and it's now unlikely he falls out of the top seven in the draft, sources tell ESPN.com. The Chicago Bulls hold the seventh pick."

Got to wonder how much is smokescreen to maybe scare some teams off.
I guess we have reached the whacky part of the lead up to the draft

Bagley is a terrible defender. Watch the Draft Express video. Problem is, he apparently doesn't recognize this. How hard is he going to work to improve his D, if he thinks he is a great defender already? Have never been high on Bagley. Or Porter. This next week will be stressful.

The thing is his ability on the other end far outweighs those defensive issues.

Not for me. I think a top 4 drafted player has to be at least an average defender. Otherwise, you're just hoping he scores more than he gives up. Don't want that in a top 4 pick.
And Bagley has other issues. Can't go to his right. Average at best shooter. Not long, so will almost surely never be a rim protector or shot blocker.

He shot nearly 40% from 3. Obviously didn't shoot a ton, but to say he's an average at best shooter is a bit of a reach. At this point Grizz have Marc to protect him on the defensive end. Now they won't have Marc for long, but his first few seasons he would.
Yes his defense is a major question, but his scoring, rebounding, and motor are all major pluses.
Bagley will be a very good NBA player.

Read the scouting reports on his shooting. Or just watch the videos. Doesn't make one confident. Shot 20% from 3 in AAU last summer. Only 62% free throw shooter, which is a reliable indicator for college to pro. And college 3-pt line is shorter than the NBA line.

Knowing the Grizz, they probably will draft Porter and give him millions while he rides the bench with chronic injuries.

Something like that. I think Amar'e Stoudemire is a good comp. Very athletic, run the floor, get transtion buckets and put-backs. Won't be the defender Amar'e was. May be a better rebounder than Amar'e.

RE: Grizz Draft Options
Edmiston said this on his show today, and I agree. It seems that Porter is either A) aggravated his back again/not 100% or B) been promised he'll be drafted by someone if he's still available at this spot. It could be the Kings @ 2, but this has Wallace written all over it. Porter is the perfect Wallace prospect, with his high school pedigree, falling in the draft compared to his high school stock (also injury prone) etc. Wallace also has made promises to several, confirmed promises to players in the first round, and followed through. I think we're taking him, barring Luca isn't available. He has as much if not more raw talent as anyone in this draft, but I'm jaded. We've watched Parsons get paid $94 mill to sit in street clothes or be on minutes restrictions. Our horrible drafting recorded is well documented, so no need to rehash it here.

Looks like trading Parsons and the 4th pick are coming from the Grizzlies side.
Fortunately I don't see anyway that would work money wise unless we get back a load of garbage.
Teams under the cap - like Dallas and Chicago - don’t have to match salaries in a trade.

Finally get a good pick in a pretty good draft and are trying to trade it for garbage.

RE: Grizz Draft Options
Lol. I don't want to give up the pick either, but do we know what we’d be getting back? Kinda hard to call a deal garbage before we know the details. The Parsons deal was garbage and you could potentially draft a player that ends up being worthless. Either way, I can’t imagine anyone wanting to take CP off our hands. They’d have to be really desperate for a top 5 pick.
