03-lmfao Edsall transitioned UCONN from FCS to FBS and took the program to a NY6 Bowl in less than 10 years.

No way he is 9th on the list.

I agree with you. Edsall is likely too low. Here is the author's explanation:

Randy Edsall: It feels easy to forget that Edsall once took UConn to the Fiesta Bowl. Even though it was eight years ago, that still counts for something, right? Maybe a shred of hope of what the Huskies could be again some day? For now, though, Edsall is in full rebuilding mode and his last head coaching gig at Maryland was a disappointment.

No issue with the top 4 but my guess is Josh Heupel will be at the top 3 after this year. I think he was one heck of a hire.

Navy sure did beat UCONN bigly in the Huskies' 4th season playing FBS...

One of your best program wins ever?

Thanks. Just wanted to point out that there's a whole lot of non-accomplished ahead of Randy on the list.

I’d like to debate that Norvell deserves the top spot, but there is no reasonable basis for it. Niumatalolo has done an outstanding job; especially considering the very unique nature of the Navy.

Good one. Hey, there are two coaches on the list Scotty beat last year. 03-drunk

Our strength of schedule has been tough. Third in the AAC last year and 28th nationally.

This year won't be much easier. Scotty Mo needs a miracle dream season or he's gone.

Ha ha ha, no, I'd have to do a lot of homework to figure out if this cracks the top 100 wins of the Johnson-Niumatalolo era, much less registers within our 700+ D1 wins.

However, it WAS very satisfying.
See, in 2002, Paul Johnson's first year as HC at Navy, Coach Edsall brought his now-fully-fledged-D1A (following transition years in '00-'01) Huskies into NMCMS for the first of a four-game series. UConn slapped Navy around 38-0.

Loss itself was no big deal - Navy lost A LOT in those days, with that 2-win 2002 season capping a 3-30 three year stretch. However, the story goes that Coach Edsall told Coach Johnson at the post-game handshake "Don't worry, coach, I won't show anyone that tape."

At the handshake at the conclusion of the 2006 game, Johnson said, "You can show that tape to anyone you please, coach."

Shortly thereafter, UConn cancelled the remaining two games in the series.

Nah, man, we have been QUITe defeated against Notre Dame. A lot of younger folks look at our recent success vs the Domers without knowing about our 43-year losing streak.

Oh, yeah, it's very much Navy fanbase lore. Good capture here from July 15, if you want a link, and Mike uses the word "legend" as well.

Edited to add:
Just found reference from Navy beat writer Bill Wagner - in a story about Navy going to Storrs in '15:
http://www.capitalgazette.com/sports/nav...story.html
Says that Johnson told the story in post-game presser, but I haven't found full video / transcript

What was it ... Memphis 70 ECU 13? Most lopsided game I've personally witnessed.
