Quote:“The families need to know. I didn't get it right. But it wasn't because of some, oh, I don't wanna go into that building, oh, I don't wanna face somebody in there. It wasn't like that at all,” Peterson said, detailing the chaos and miscommunication that led to his failure to stop the shooting.
“I never thought even for a moment of being scared or a coward 'cause I was just doing things the whole time,” he added.
“Those shots I heard, I was like, immediately I thought they were outside. I didn't know where they were coming from,” Peterson explained.
“Those are my kids in there. I never would have sat there and let my kids get slaughtered. Never,” he said.
“It haunts me,” Peterson said. "It's easy, you know, to sit there for people to go, 'Oh, he should have known that that person was up there.' It wasn't that easy. It wasn't.
“I'm never gonna get over this, you know,” he added.
Im not sure I buy what he is selling. That said, the actual shooting portion of the incident was over in about 3 minutes. Thats not very long to assess the situation (whats happening and number of gunmen) , locate the shooter/shooters, and act--especially if the school is very big at all. For instance, the building in question apparently had 3 floors. More and more, I lean toward training and arming the teachers in the building. I just dont think anything else proposed is going to be able to get to the situation and act fast enough in the real world.
