Rutgers Changes Stadium Name to HighPoint.com Stadium
http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/index...._name.html
Quote:Under the terms of the contract, HighPoint is responsible "for all costs and expenses ... incurred by Rutgers'' as a result of sign changes. A Rutgers official said the River Road sign change was covered by insurance because the previous sign was damaged by a recent storm.
"Rebranding the stadium as 'HighPoint.com Stadium' clearly and uniquely identifies the company and allows everyone to more easily connect with us and understand who HighPoint is through a quick visit to our website,'' Mendiburu said. "Bottom line, we feel the branding and new look is more fitting for the most passionate and loyal fans and hardest working team, not only the Big Ten, but the entire NCAA.''

I know the genie is out of the bottle when it comes to stadium naming rights, but hopefully this trend does not catch on for Big Ten football stadiums.
I do not want Iowa playing at Mediacom stadium instead of Kininick Stadium, named after Iowa's only Heisman winner who died serving his country in WWII.

Selling the naming rights was not a big issue for us. That's probably because we are perpetually cash strapped and looking for added revenue streams. The stadium was only ever called Rutgers Stadium and even now most fans still call it that, just as most fans still refer to the Louis Brown Athletic Center as the RAC. We didn't have a great back story like Iowa does. Frankly, other than Yurcak Field, I don't think there would be an issue with selling the naming rights to any of our facilities. Even then, the facility is named after an All-American lacrosse player, but is now used for soccer (Which has become a bone of contention for the Yurcak family).

I agree. When I was at RU in the mid to late 80's, Louis Brown donated a $1,000,000 and got the RAC named after him and to this day I have never heard anyone refer to it as the Louis Brown Athletic Center. Hell, during football season when I am tailgating, if I decide to post my status on Facebook, it comes up with Rutgers Stadium, not High Point Solutions Stadium.
