Could be who knows, the ACC is already the primary backup for the bowl if the SEC or AAC can't send a team.

Its not impossible that the Heart of Dallas is completely going away. The city recently chose to stop contributing about a million dollars towards the Bowl a year as it had in the past. The statements from Bowl administrators made it clear they believe upgrading to a better match up may be necessary to remain viable.

Would you rather see the Bearcats play a 6-6 P5 or a 10-2 G4 in a bowl game?

the public perception will be better if we play and beat weak p6 teams. than if we beat really good g4 teams.

I hate to say it, but I agree. USF won back to back bowls against South Carolina and Texas Tech. Yes both were 'down' that year, and a G4 school with a better record may have been hotter at the time... But (because of the politics THEY created) we need to beat P5 teams wherever and whenever we can... gets us more credibility than any G4 school no matter how hot they are... I was happy to go back to Bham if it got us a P5 opponent, even if it did hurt attendance.

Maybe so, it reminded me of something the Memphis AD said a month ago or so about bowl opportunities (that didn't really compute at the time) and wanting to schedule more P5s. Since HOD and St. Pete/Tampa are both ESPN properties, I am wondering if there may be a swap/contingency in place if there are no available P5 teams looking for a landing spot as it was supposed to be against a P5 this year and is currently TBA. Note: this is speculation only, no solid info.

I actually think it is likely moving up in the Pac12 lineup behind the Alamo given the location and the brand new stadium. It will be a premier bowl for them which why they want another P5 opponent. Could mean they drop another one which could open up a different spot for the MWC like the holiday bowl or something since Poinsetta folded. Of course all just conjecture and no facts but we shall see.

Seems like things are happening on the bowl front so hopefully Aresco is locking up at least a premier spot for the champ with as many P5 matchups as possible behind it.

I think we are almost guaranteed to lose bowl ties this time around. We have some years where we had 8 or 9 ties. Overbooking like that is not going to be allowed in the next bowl cycle. Each conference will get to tie themselves to the number of bowls that matches thier 4 year historical average of Bowl qualified teams. That means some conferences will need to drop ties while others will need to add ties. The report that establishes how many bowl ties each conference will get is to be released by July. Just read an article that claims that’s what bowl execs are currently waiting on. Once that comes out—the bowl cycle negotiations will supposedly be “fast and furious.”

The key to this cycle is not quantity—-the key this time around will be QUALITY.

AD Bowen has been recently appointed to the oversight committee. He said they are meeting Mon and Tues of next week. it'll be interesting to hear what he has to say during his weekly radio interview on Thurs.

ETA: He was just approved yesterday so the meetings next week will be his first.

This is in fact true. The AAC and the MWC might end up in better bowls as tie ins with the P5 for some bowls might be stripped.
