OT - Richmond to OBX traffic.
Drove the family from Colorado to Richmond this week. Getting ready to depart Richmond for Duck, NC. Would it be better to drive I64 or 95S to get down there? Thanks in advance!

from Richmond, I'd go 95 south to Petersburg, then take 460 to Suffolk and avoid both tunnels. It'll probably be a few more miles than going 64 east, but you never know what kinds of accidents will hose those bridges/tunnels.

We use the I-64-664 route. If you don't go at peak traffic times, we've never had a problem.

I like the 460 route, but then again I don't live far from it in Western VA.

Lots of construction on 64 near Williamsburg plus Busch Gardens traffic. Messy.

If you use the I64/664 route that billymac suggested you can take the Chesapeake bypass to get to theOuter Banks.

You would take the bypass via the 460 route also
