Rosanne connected, Hollywood misses
https://nypost.com/2018/06/02/hollywood-...-roseanne/

When was the last time a Christian or conservative (if they are even on the show) were not treated as a villian?

"...Twenty-eight years later, I still did not personally care for her, but I had to give her props for a singular stroke of brilliance. In the newest incarnation of her show “Roseanne,” she presented an honest — though not entirely sympathetic — American middle-class family who struggles not just economically but also with differing political views. It was spot-on.

Simply put, it did something no other television program has done in the modern era. Her two-episode premiere earned an astonishing 18.2 million viewers, overperforming in the media markets located in middle of America, with Tulsa, Okla., Cincinnati and Pittsburgh leading the numbers.

Cities like New York and Los Angeles, which almost always drive the No. 1 slot, didn’t even crack the top 20.

In a twist of irony, she — of all people — delivered...."

Good message but Last Man Standing, in my opinion, is a modern day sitcom that also delt with different political positions within the family.

Sanford and Son also hit the marks as well. They struggled with financial issues as well. Good Times was another one that touches issues as well. It was the exact opposite of the Cosby Show.

Sanford/Son ended in ’77, Good Times in ’79. So I think when the author said “modern era” she wasn’t counting those two. But yeah, they definitely blazed the trail along with All in the Family and The Jeffersons.

Last Man Standing, no excuses for omitting that one. She just never saw the show, obviously.

Since Fox brought on LMS, maybe they can bring in a Roseanne Barr-led situation comedy that is no holds barred in your face and unapologetic. Unleash that brand of humor. On both sides. I don't care. I don't even own a TV (Hell, I never even HEARD of Last Man Standing until it got cancelled.)

If that stupid cartoon that steals bits from other shows and spouts left wing crap can remain on the air then so can she.

Fred Sanford used the N word in that show - a lot, too. Never got called out on it. IMO, Fred Sanford was a great man. I wish there were millions more of Fred Sanfords in the world.

It was actually much funnier than I expected it to be. Was one of the rare examples were a reprise was actually working. I don’t know if it would’ve worked over the long haul, but it had a good year. It’s really a shame that she blew it. If I worked for that show, I would be irate with that nut.

It was a very good reprise, but I don't know how it would've done with extra seasons.

As far as Barr is concerned, she is unwell and has been for quite a while. She's been medicated to the gills for at least the past decade.

I absolutely hate that the show ended up in this era of conservatism vs. liberalism. The show was never supposed to be like that.
