Scott is out. Good effort, though.

Right now, Scott is in 3rd place in the overall standings, with 5 jumpers remaining. It's unlikely that anyone will pass him going into Event 5 (400 meters).

RE: Rice Owls at NCAA Track & Field Championships
Duckworth is the only one left in Flight 1 as the bar moves to 2.13 (6' 11¾"). This is why he's the prohibitive favorite in the overall competition. Only a no-height in the pole vault (unlikely) or an injury can stop him from being the champion.

Duckworth clears 2.13 and shuts it down. Event 5 is the 400 meters at 8:56 p.m. CDT (ESPN2).

1. Duckworth (Kentucky) 3623
2. Erm (Georgia) 3428
3. Filip (Rice) 3423
4. Williams (Stanford) 3402
5. Saluri (Georgia) 3366
6. Riley (UTSA) 3322
7. Nytes (Wisconsin) 3286
8. Ehrhardt (Michigan State) 3272
9. Nielsen (BYU) 3256
10. Delgado (Louisville) 3223
Top 8 is important, because team scoring (10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1) is only for the top 8. Also, it determines 1st team All-American.

What is his first day decathlon best? I would think cracking the 8000 point barrier for the two days would be a great accomplishment/goal.

If Scott breaks 49.69 he will have a first day personal best.

49.13 for Scott. Not his best effort. But it should be a first day record for him.

RE: Rice Owls at NCAA Track & Field Championships
Just a reminder that Thursday's coverage will be on ESPN2 from 6:00 p.m. CDT until 9:30 (but I'll extend my DVR until 9:45). Tonight's coverage was suddenly switched in the middle of the event from ESPN2 to ESPN, due to the lack of a 3rd game of the WCWS.
Also, you can follow the events of the Decathlon on ESPN3. That's where you'll find all field events, also.
Remember, except for the Decathlon, Thursday is women's day at the meet.

RE: Rice Owls at NCAA Track & Field Championships
Scott is in 4th entering event 8 - the dreaded pole vault, but he clears on his "safety" height of 4.21 (13' 9¾") on his second attempt. He's since cleared 4.31 (14' 1¾").

The actual standings are not set because, while Flight 1 of the pole vault has begun, Flight 2 of Event 7 (discus) has not finished.
