Schiedam Mayor Cor Lamers issued a statement saying that the suspect was a Syrian who had been living with his father in Schiedam since last year.

Not even profiling would have been needed here - the Dutch already knew a Syrian guest had mental issues (was known to gov't orgs). They just sat on information.

That's a bit of a jump. You can't do this when the opponent has a gun - this guy did not (and don't even think of calling this an anti-gun post - it's not). Every situation is different.

Trust me, our cops shoot and kill plenty of people who are not armed with guns.

I'd like to see you do it. I'd like to see anyone not in the heat of a moment of crisis direct a bullet to a nonlethal spot on the body with precision and intention. If they were being attacked I can almost guarantee their wounding him was an accident.
