2018 Football Schedule and TV appearences
Tulsa has 4 of the 6 games announced so far televised on a national network. Much better than last year as so far only one game (fcs game) is on ESPN 3. I am disappointed the Texas game didn't get a top level channel but the Longhorn network is still better than ESPN 3 for exposure.
Big deal for me and I think our attendence is the schedule matches up well with our needs.
Only one home game on a weeknight, I wish it was on Thursday not Friday then the 6pm kick off would work great on a school night and avoid the high school football clashes. Not bad though, I don't worry about away weekday games but both of ours are on Thursday meaning theoretically recruits could watch us.
We can only have one game (Tulane) that could directly conflict with OSU or OU for the critical "second team" fan for us. In fact only the OSU vs Boise St game even makes it difficult for fans to attend OSU or OU game and be back in Tulsa in time for the game. Homecoming was chosen for a game that doesn't bring a lot of attraction to our casual fan, is a beatable opponent, on a Saturday when both OSU and OU will be on the road at mediocre or low teams.
I doubt the UConn or Tulane will be picked up for TV. If Arkansas is decent and we're doing well I could see that game getting put on one of the espn's, at Memphis I could see as another one, maybe the SMU home game as well.
So I am expecting 7-8 of our games on television not bad considering 1 of the other 4 games is a fcs opponent.
As a side note, I like seeing all the OTA games the conference is getting. Great opportunity to get a solid track record to boost our television contract negotiations. 5 already, with UCF Memphis, USF Houston, Memphis Houston, and UCF USF as potential games still available, I'm sure there are probably a few others out there as well that could be considered.
