The final Indy 500 on ABC stands as the third highest rated race of any kind so far this year behind Daytona and Atlanta. Last year at this time it was the 5th highest.

Seems that ALL FORMS OF MOTORSPORTS are losing TV numbers.

Gimmicks such as those created by NASCAR have not helped and in someways are hurting.

So what are the answers to the rapidly declining TV numbers for motorsports?

How can it be turned around?

Is a weakening NASCAR having an effect on all other forms of Motorsports in the US?

It is still the bell cow when it comes to US motorsports.

Has it's decline brought all other forms of motorsports down with it?

Nascar has had several fan favorite driver's retire lately. Jr, Stewart, Gordon, Patrick. Could be people haven't gotten use to the new drivers.

yea that's it

BTW, the FESJC is this week. You should expand your taste beyond nascar and wrasslin and try to attend. I doubt they serve Busch Light but you may be able to sneak a cooler in.

Yes it's a good event. Back when my step-mother was the tournament administrator I got unlimited tickets including clubhouse privileges. I still have a golf pull over that says Federal Express. Not sure about the concessions but I didn't know Busch made a light beer. You beer experts are on top of everything.

But I'm going motor-boatin at the lake Saturday including a pig rasslin event in the hollar that night. Then slot car racing in Huntsville on Sunday where we'll probably eat some yard bird.

What kind of slot/model car racing is there in Memphis area these days. Do they still have RC events around town?

Hobby shop at summer and white station has a 1/32 scale track. I race HO. They used to have RC races in the parking lot but not sure if they still do.

RE: All Time Lows
NASCAR chose a few decades ago to double down on the redneck eyes.

Even though the sport stemmed from rednecks, the strategy ultimately made racing even more niche.

With all the rednecks then constantly playing working class hero while cheering for millionaire drivers they bashed the more athletic Indy cars and racers. Interesting phenomenon seeing rednecks embrace fabulously wealthy and pampered people as their champion. Imagine that.

Bottom line, racing is an experiential sport...being there is infinitely better than watching. While the same can be said for all sports, it applies more to watching cars.

It is okay. Not a scandal. Not even a big deal. Tastes change. Horse tracks used to be everywhere, drive in theaters, etc... We enjoy attending big races. Good enough.

NASCAR's downfall has been with the the last decade and a half after they started to TURN AWAY from the core which you consider redneck.

In 2001 the Title sponsorship deal with Nextel brought in around $75 million a year. When it came up for renewal and the name changed to Sprint the deal was only worth around $40-$50 million a year. The newest deal is lucky to be half of that much.

Look for the same thing to happen when the more athletic Indy Car series and drivers look to replace Verizon for their title sponsor next year.

Would appreciate it if you can find me some more details and maybe a historical back ground.

If i ever had the money and a location i would love to get a layout built like the old Monza circuit.
