A great article on Mason Fine. Everyone in Mean Green country is glad Rice decided not to offer.

This was Glaesman's year in fairness to the feline.

So we chose lightning in a bottle over talent

I am sure everybody on this board back then would have been overjoyed to see we offered a 5'10", 150 lb QB with only one other offer - North Texas.

Hindsight is 20/20

Isn't this a reference to Miklo Smalls?

But regarding Glaesmann over Mason Fine,
Glaesmann was a 6'3 4.5 dual threat that played behind record setter Ben Hicks so from measurable standpoint I could see the rationale.

There are always players who for one reason or another are passed over by the D1 schools but go on to have very productive college and pro careers.

I’m a believer in recruiting multiple quarterbacks every year. One, it’s such an important position that you need multiple chances to succeed. Two, as long as you are recruiting athletic QBs, the extras can move to secondary or wide receiver or even RB and help there. As long as he has a chance to play somewhere, I’d give him a scholly.
