let people get out of that killer sun
There wasn't 150 Rice fans on that side and that included the band. Those kids took that heat and sun like champs. I've worked out in the heat and sun all my life but that was a draining sun. We mostly watched by standing up behind seats that were 95% empty.
Two sides to that complaint. Before I gave up on athletic director Joe Karlgaard, we had very nice football (50 yard line, top row of the reserved seating) and basketball (front row upper reserved) season tickets. They were seats that always attracted those moving to a better location. And after I had to shoo people out of the seats, I always complained back to the athletic department.
In football especially, we would come and go from the air conditioned and free food R Room over the south end zone. I remember that Western game, and our guests from Louisville and us spent most of the day (that we could stand) in the R Room, medicating with craft beers.
I have to ask people to move from my seats at every home fb game so I do understand why they do that. But at some point after halftime....let people sit in unused seats. But I do see the point of its easier to not let it happen at all.
The only game that might have been hotter that I've been to was the Tenn/Western game. Not only the sun and heat but no room to get away from it and 100,000 people around you.
