How long has WMU been receiving this much state money? I’m surprised we get that much. Insane amount of money.

I would not have gone to WMU if it did not have Division 1 athletics. I'm not sure how many are like me, though, and how much donation money, etc would be lost. I know for me and some friends it is definitely a way to keep WMU in our minds as alumni.

I agree, but why do we get so much state money compared to other FBS universities? That’s an insane amount.

RE: Football subsidies
Dear Broncos,
First of all, this article is at least three years old. The statistics stated need to be upgraded, for example, as many of you know, Eastern has dropped four sports. That will mean a savings of 2.4 million in the athletic budget. I will agree that the three MAC schools will spend between twenty and twenty-five million on their budgets for athletics, but like the article said; the presidents of the schools do not want to drop from Division One.
The way I see part of the problem is the fact that our State Legislature has continually under-funded education in general, and this just gets dumped on the student body to pay the increased costs.

RE: Football subsidies
This is a G5/MAC issue and a solution needs to be generated. Together we stand and divided we fall.

More to come....
