My condolences to the Dan Burgardt family.
I haven't been to this forum for quite some time and just learned of Dan's passing. I was surprised and I wasn't-I know he battled health problems including cancer and heart problems. Still, he was too full of life and too young at only 62 to pass on.
I first encountered Dan about 17 years ago in the early WMU Broncos forums, long before the Stampede. All I knew was there was this crazy guy going by the nom-de-guerre of 'Chipdip' who loved baiting Chippewas as much as I did. We had some great times online before we ever met.
We finally connected at a WMU Broncos football game and I joined him and Aimee for a few pre-game get togethers. He was always a gracious person and giving of himself-don't confuse his online personality with Dan. He was really a decent guy who tried to make the world a better place by engagement, not by cursing the darkness. He and Aimee gave of themselves, going out of there way to reach out to underpriveleged kids in a most gracious way. I remember several games sitting with them and half a dozen young men at the games and having a great time.
A couple of times I met him at Wayside West after the games for a drink and some talk before I had to head back to Detroit. Dan was the type of guy you just liked being around and talking to, he made you feel better. People like that are rare.
This place won't be the same without him-Dan was a strong force in the forum and, like him or not, he was extremely knowledgeable about basketball and football. Take care Dan and rest in peace.
Anybody who can share more about the details other than what I see in the obituary, that'd be great. Thanks.
