Non-AAC: CUSA experimenting with new MBB scheduling to improve RPI and seeding.
Quote:So, how is scheduling going to change that? The most radical difference will be that when the conference schedule is released, built in will be dates for games, but with opponents to be determined. Those dates will be filled with league opponents after the conference seeds the teams following the first 14 games.
"We're going to play 13 games and your travel partner twice, which would be Western Kentucky for us," said D'Antoni. "Then they are going to seed the schools. If you finish in the top five, No. 1 through No. 5 will play each other for the next four games to get 18 games.
D-1 Docket
What does everyone think? Do you think this will work, or is it just a gimmick? Is it something smaller conferences should follow and would the AAC benefit from something similar?

I'm surprised they paid a consultant to reinstate a previous policy (plus a few tweaks). As soon as Calipari left, the other schools were quick to drop the pod system. Granted most of those schools are now in the AAC lol. But, to the bigger point, CUSA needs to do something.

Sounds complicated.
How about they just tell 75% of the conference to stop sucking so much? Way too many Lebos for 1 league.

No reason it shouldnt help. It appears to me that the AAC manipulates the schedule a bit. Since we dont play enough conference games to play everyone home and away---we end up not playing a few teams in the league twice. It appears to me we do make an effort to see that the teams expected to be at the top of the standings end up dropping a game against a team expected to be near the bottom of the standings. That said, that determination is made before a game is played and is just a guess. The CUSA proposal includes more games and, thus, would likely have a larger affect.
The best way to improve RPI across the board is schedule better in OOC and, have the conference as a group, win more games in OOC.

Unfortunately for the C-USA and other leagues is even if their RPI is around the same levels, they won't pass the "eye test". It happens every year.

Smart move, although it won’t necessarily pay off every season. It’s hard to envision any possible scenario in which this hurts them, and sometimes it will help.
The core of the problem for them is still getting their @ss kicked too many times in OOC games.
