The poor guy was finally let go. In a way that's where being young and dumb hurt him. There's signs all around about not going in with weapons or even "a" bullet or else you'll be slammed into prison. It was a sad mistake and I pitied the poor guy. But, he should have stopped his vehicle on the US side and explained to the US customs people why he stopped. He would have gotten a chance to turn around.

It was the way the highway he was on ran straight into Mexico without warning and with no way to turn around. They have since changed the highway so that you cant mistakenly do that.


Even more sad is that whiole that guy was rotting in prison over there, two mexican armed soldiers accidentally did the same thing in reverse (including having weapons), and Obama let those guys go immediately without caring a damned about our guy over there.

A bunch of kids from a well-to-do family from S. Louisiana were on a dove hunt in S. Texas near the border a bit over 10 years ago. They decided to cross the border one night for some drinking and skirt chasing. They forgot about the shotguns and ammo in the trunk of the car.

Amazingly, they went through customs without the car even being checked. Later though, they were stopped by local police on a traffic violation and the weapons and ammo discovered. Shall we say, problema grande.

It took Senator John Breaux and who knows how many Benjamin Franklins to get them out of jail. IIRC, they were in jail for a couple of months.

Stupid.

At every border crossing there are huge signs warning about the dangers of entering Mexico with a firearm. They go something like this: Enter Mexico with a firearm AND YOU WILL GO TO JAIL.

Having said that, back before the drug trade took over the border, I entered Mexico many times with weapons for a deer hunt. Never had a problem, but it was always "interesting".
