This is a big pickup! We need talent/depth at safety!

His HS tape is full of pick 6s. He will perform well at safety.

Go Dukes!

6-0, 195lbs
Mid-range size for a safety, but looks to have great hands and speed

Diamonte Tucker-Dorsey, r-Fr LB was his teammate at Lake Taylor in Norfolk

From OSU's roster: "Davis was the state of Virginia’s Gatorade Player of the Year (for athletic excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character), its Associated Press player of the year and a consensus 4-star prospect by Rivals, Scout and 247Sports … he was considered among the Top 25 cornerbacks in the nation by Scout (No. 22) and Rivals (No. 25) … selected first-team 4A all-state as both a defensive back and a receiver as a senior, Davis had 43 tackles and seven interceptions – five of which he returned for touchdowns – on defense and 41 receptions for 731 yards and six touchdowns on offense"

So excited to see this young man sign with the Dukes. As I posted on the FB recruiting thread (when all I knew was he had decided to transfer) he represents a missing-link in the rebuilding of the D. If anything, the D should be stronger and more effective than last year, which is a scary prospect for our opponents! Welcome to JMU Mr. Davis!

Wait, he's from Norfolk. Why in the world did he not stay @ home to play for butterfly U? Much better program & facilities exist there.
Seriously though, this is a good get!

Is this the first Ohio State transfer that our program has ever picked up? It really says a lot about how impressive mike Houston is that he’s able to attract multiple four star recruits in HS to come transfer to our FCS program.

RE: Wayne Davis to jmu
Is Davis the highest high school rated player to ever transfer to JMU? His 247 composite was .8912 (4 star).

How our recent transfers compare:

Vad Lee - .8861 (3 star)
David Eldridge - .8544 (3 star)
Marcus Marshall - .8441 (3 star)
Paris Black - .8420 (3 star)
Juwon Moye - .8391 (3 star)
Landan Word - .8305 (3 star)
Darrious Carter - .8179 (3 star)
Ben DiNucci - .8146 (3 star)
Jawon Hamilton - .8120 (3 star)
Ron'Dell Carter - .8069 (3 star)

Obviously we've seen these stars don't guarantee talent and some of our best players were starless out of high school, but still exciting.

He should have said first OSU transfer that understood defense.

Quintin Hunter (UVA transfer) was a 4 star by at least one service.

No. 2nd to Titus Till.

I know you only went back 4 years, but in that time frame you left off Connor Mitch, 2016 JMU transfer, HS class of 2013 4 star.
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2...itch-13079
https://247sports.com/Season/2013-Footba...bled=False

As far as the other Rivals 3 to 4 star to transfer to JMU going back to 2010:
Titus Till, 2012 JMU transfer, HS class of 2010 4 star
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2...till-46686
https://247sports.com/Player/Titus-Till-1438

Lafonte Thourogood, 2012 JMU transfer, HS class of 2011 3 star
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2...good-29479
https://247sports.com/Player/Lafonte-Thourogood-1617

Quintin Hunter, 2010 JMU transfer, was a Rivals HS class of 2009 4 star
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2...nter-21424
247 3 star
https://247sports.com/Player/Quintin-Hunter-28412

I only looked at Rivals and 247 (formerly Scout.com). Didn't look at ESPN. I believe Hunter, Till, and Mitch were the only previous 4 star to transfer to JMU..

Here would be the top 6 by 247 ranking:

Titus Till .9168 (4 star) (multi year starter)
Wayne Davis .8912 (4 star) (remains to be seen)
Connor Mitch .8903 (4 star) (1 season as a backup)
Vad Lee .8861 (3 star) (multi year All CAA, Sr All American)
Quintin Hunter .8844 (4 star Rivals/3 star 247) (multi year starter)
Lafonte Thourogood .8757 (3 star) (2? seasons on team, hardly saw the field)

Wow Titus Till had a killer rating. Hopefully we can see a multiyear starter out of Davis too.
