Reports were that he was hitting more long passes in spring. Hare also did better on long passes in 2nd yr before he got injured. I'm generally not so optimistic but 14 seems like a lot to me. I have a friend that is an Iowa fan so I really hope it's close.

Until there is a change in offensive philosophy, aka running an actual offense, I am wondering if it really matters who the QB is.

James Vanderberg (I think was his name)? They moved him to wideout. I think he was a senior last season.

If we didn't get curbed stomped by a 6-6 Duke team in our last game I'd feel better about this game but Iowa is a much better program than Duke and Childers needs to become a legitimate passing QB because he isn't that much of a threat as a runner.
There always seems to be drama / dissension during bowl season for some reason. We definitely have to get that fixed. However, the Huskies are always motivated / united in the regular season. We need to carry that over to bowl prep...

He’s talking about Nate Wieland.....verballed with NIU to play QB then jimmy moped ship last second to chase an Iowa offer. I think they moved him to linebacker

+1- I would not put too much weight for carryover from Duke game. We seem to completely run out of gas/motivation by that end of the season. This has done more than anything dull the overall fan enthusiasm for NIU football. Have to get this fixed

Yep. If the team projects the impression that they don't give a crap, why should the fans? After I spent my time, energy, and money going to these games with the team failing to show up, I stopped attending the bowl games years ago and have been much happier since.

When you also get comments by guys like Lurry and JJ basically flipping off the program on the way out , that doesn't help much for fan excitement either. I really miss the attitudes of a Novak coached team. Program came before self or at very least was on equal footing

Coach Novak built the foundation for a decade or more of success. I just hope the foundation is not allowed to crumble. Carey is not impressing me, the fake punt out of the endzone was the final straw for me but it was one of many straws.

I dont think anything encapsulated the shift away from a foundation that Novak built than what was the bowl game fiasco last year. A once motto of "Anywhere, Anytime, Any Place" transformed into "South of the Mason dixon line, before the holidays, not in a dome" I am all for NIU carrying the chip on the shoulder, I think that's what draws many of us as fans. However we seem to be seeing that trend where the chip on the shoulder is turning into always playing the victim card.

For the bowl game fiasco, remember to include that the location also must have a beach. I suppose sunshine with a cloudless sky and no rain would help.

You need context when you look at your those teams and today’s. Bowls were harder to come by and hence way more rewarding. Novak had 2 bowl appearances in 12 seasons. They’d be happy to play in the Siberia bowl. Carey has been part of a string of 6 bowls in 7 seasons. His comments were a PR gaffe, but pretty much what everybody on the team was probably thinking. Today teams get to go to the Bahamas for being 6-6. Most bowls don’t mean much except a vacation today.

Then why even bother playing the games? Just send the teams on a nice vacation somewhere warm and with a beach as a reward for a hard-earned 6-6 season.

Bowl games are for TV network revenue more than the team or schools

Then we should turn down any bowl invitation and make everybody happy. The players and coaches will be happy to be spending the holidays at home, the school will be happy to be saving money, and the fans will be happy not to see another humiliating performance. Win-win...
