A) Crazy that they are able to land this level of a recruit.
B) I wonder how Porter feels about being recruited over and possibly finding a lot of bench time next year. (obviously depending on how quickly Brown develops). Brown could be a better fit for how they play.
C) Top 5 team if Martins come back.

Just shows what a mid major can do with financial commitmement and the right coach.

Yup. Reno is recruiting at a very high level and is probably not even done.

I would think the potential of next season's Nevada team is helping them land these guys. The odd thing is, if ODU had 2 good inside players the Monarchs could also be very, very good next season too. The potential is there for ODU as well. The right two guys could make the Monarchs a top 50 team or better.

Maybe if Karl Malone still had some eligibility.

I disagree. I think if Porter and Branden were back on the squad this coming season ODU would be quite good. I'd expect them to compete for the championship and anything less than the NCAA would be a disappointment. If we could get two guys at that level I'd be optimistic for the coming season

But they aren’t...........

And no one currently still available is as good as either one of them.

It depends on how game ready Reece and Ezikpe are. If they are good eniugh for 15-20 mins (combined), we just need 1 more frontcourt player. Just a defender/rebounder; any offense would be a bonus.

I think that if either Reece or Ezikpe alone is good enough to play at least 15-20 minutes per game and they get an experienced center that can play at least 25 minutes and do a good job scoring and rebounding then they may end up similar to last season. They really need to also lock in whoever their back up center is going to be as well. All three guys they turned to at that position (Porter, Brandan, and Vassor) are gone.

Carver for example played 18 minutes per game and averaged 2 points and 4 rebounds. Any combination of Reece and Ezikpe combined averaging those same stats (i.e. 1 point and 2 rebounds each) isn't likely to make ODU successful.

With the departures of Haynes, Brandan, and Porter, ODU has lost a combined 81 minutes of playing time, 34 points, and 18 rebounds per game. Whoever the main inside guys are that replace Brandan and Porter, either they need to be able to collectively average around 22 points and 14 rebounds per game, or there will be a drop off in production at those two positions from last season that will have to be made up by someone else.

Where's Petey Sessoms when you need him?

What a stark difference in fan temperament. Unlike much of the angst here, they are ecstatic about Trey. I don't think there was one single negative comment about him joining the team. Someday, I hope to read a thread with such positivity. Until then . . . .

Why wouldnt they be ecstatic? Trey, in spite of his crybaby, technical foul antics, was a very good basketball player. Probably would have been in the running for CUSA POY. I'd be ecstatic if the Monarchs could replace him with someone of equal talent.

As soon as JJ brings in a 5th year player with his credentials, you will.

It could be because everything is going amazingly there, and there is absolutely no reason to question their coach's recruiting. Plus Trey is a proven talent.

They just went to the elite 8 and brought in 5 star recruits (plural) and trey porter.

We’ve been waiting all summer to replace him with Anton Larsen with injury problems.

Totally comparable, what are we thinking! Lol

1) where did you read what Robinson’s injury is? Please share because I haven’t seen it anywhere.

2) why don’t you give the guy a chance? He might actually help the team.

I know you hate Jones and Wood (and pretty much every other human), but perhaps you could at least pretend you are a Monarch fan and have a wait and see attitude vs a doom and gloom attitude.
