Fifth Third Arena Donor Wall
I just received this email and wanted to pass this along for those who might have no seen it.

Dear Bearcat Fans,

Since its dedication in 1989, Fifth Third Arena, formerly known as Shoemaker Center, has served as the cornerstone for students, athletes, and fans on the University of Cincinnati campus. The newly renovated arena is a first-class facility standing as a testament to the Bearcats Nation and echoes our commitment to make UC the class of the league.

Today we invite you to be a part of the Bearcat legacy. When you make a donation of $500 or more to the Fifth Third Arena Renovation Project, we will show you our Bearcat appreciation by placing your name on the new Bearcat Donor Wall inside the arena.

I wonder how much (if any) of that donation is tax deductible.

If you wanted it to be deductible you missed the boat(unless the boat sinks and a new boat puts the old rules back)

Do the new rules effect donations like this? Seems to me there is no benefit received, so I imagine this would be deductible. Its not like this is a requirement to obtain a certain level of seating to a sporting event, where clearly a benefit is received.

That's what I'm thinking... other than the cost of producing a small metal plate with your name on it ($20?), I see no benefit. And even then, since UC owns the plate, it isn't really a benefit for the donor.

Important Tax Reform Changes

Quote:Donor-advised funds, charitable gift funds and payments from IRAs or private foundations cannot be used to pay for priority seating gifts. However, they can support any 100% deductible fund, including:
- UCATS General Fund (annual student-athlete scholarships)
- Fifth Third Arena or other capital projects
- Scholarship Endowments
- Women's Excellence Fund

The increased standard deduction will make a lot of those donations not matter for a few years.

I got confirmation that it wasn't ready. Planning to have it ready for the OSU game.
