OT-Did the refs make a mistake last night
Watching the Rockets-Warriors game last night, I have a question.
On the last shot by Clay Thompson, the shot did not hit the rim....and Chris Paul rebounded the ball as time ran out and he was fouled as he landed with the rebound. After the review, the referees determine that the shot clock expired with 0.5 seconds left...so far so good.
They then awarded Paul two free throws...after his miss and make, the Warriors had one last possession in front court which could have been disastrous for the Rockets.
My question...why is Chris Paul shooting free throws?
If there's a shot clock violation, the ball is dead and the Rockets should have a properly administered throw-in at the time the violation occurred. It seems to me that they missed it. Comments??

I didn't realize it was a shot clock violation. If that's the case, I agree the foul didn't happen, unless they somehow called it a deadball foul?

I don't know how it works in basketball, but in lacrosse, a personal foul (roughly speaking, a foul of player contact rather than a procedural foul) always results in a penalty, even if the "play" never should have happened. The reasoning is that personal fouls are about safety, and an unsafe act cannot be ignored for procedural reasons -- i.e., even if it theoretically shouldn't have taken place, if it did take place and it was unsafe, it should be penalized.

No shot clock violation in the play-by -play.

Running the video back, the Warriors got that possession with 13 seconds left, so no shot clock started. Foul occurred before the regular clock expired.
