If you look at who the WAC asked to join them? They are 10,000 students in enrollment. There seems to be some concerns right now. NCAA D2 and lower is now unstable with schools closing or merging.

They indeed did merge, but Nebraska Christian merged into Hope International. Hope International operates Nebraska Christian as a separate campus with a separate athletic program.

Hope International competes at the NAIA level. Nebraska Christian competes at the NCCAA level.

I expect Nebraska Christian to apply to the NAIA within the next 3 years, maybe even as soon as this year.

Mt. Ida's campus is now owned by UMass - not the university system as a whole, but as an extension of the flagship campus. This move pissed off the UMass Boston and UMass Lowell campuses quite a bit, since it's just outside Boston and a lot closer to Lowell than Amherst. However, it will operate as a satellite campus that will allow UMass students to be more involved directly with Boston (for jobs/internships etc.)

The full list of schools on the HCM (1 & 2) list is found here:

https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/about/data-...school/hcm

Most HCM1 are for missing or late report or statement, not a real issue. I note with * more serious "Financial Responsibility" (possible fraud or mismanagement) or other issues.

HCM1:
Alabama State (SWAC)
North Alabama (A-SUN, Big South FB)
Southern Illinois Carbondale (MVC, MVFC FB)
Southern Illinois Edwardsville (OVC)
Marshall (C-USA)
West Virginia (Big XII)

Jacksonville (A-SUN, Pioneer FB) * // Financial Responsibility
"School has a failing or a zone composite score or other concerns such as unreconciled accounts."
Michigan State (Big Ten) // Administrative Capability
"Concerns about the institution’s ability to manage the Title IV programs including student file maintenance, record retention, and verification."

// other names I found of note
Tuskegee University
Joffrey Ballet School, American Ballet Center // Financial Responsibility

HCM2: // reasons
Howard (MEAC) // Program Review - Severe Findings
"School has severe audit findings which could include financial statements, internal controls, and compliance with laws, regulations, and provisions of contract or grant agreements."

Notably NOT on the list:

Chicago State // two people deserve credit getting them off the list (finally); better management
Asuza Pacific // they may have bad financing for the university, but they have no issues with feds

Colleges and Universities School Debts Can Lead To Closures And Forced Realignment
(12-18-2018 05:22 AM)DavidSt Wrote:  Arkansas's 2 two year colleges want to merge into a larger system

Very misleading and inaccurate statement. Arkansas has many more than 2 two-year colleges. Only 1 of Arkansas' 2-year colleges is looking to merge with a larger system. The entire article:
Quote:A two-year college in central Arkansas is considering merging with the University of Arkansas or the Arkansas State University systems.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that College of the Ouachitas officials are looking into potential mergers after the school's board voted unanimously last week to align with a larger university system.

College President Steve Rook says the Malvern community college wants to become part of a larger system because its state insurance increases its liability to $5.2 million, which is an inaccurate representation. The liability could affect the school’s ability to obtain loans and bonds.

Rook says he plans to meet with the university system presidents in the coming weeks. Southern Arkansas University also remains an option.

Rook says the board plans to make a decision by January or early February.

The two schools that became UTRGV were about the same distance as Kingsville and Corpus Christi. Both Kingsville and Corpus Christi are TA&M schools. So it could happen. Not at all saying that it will.

Plans For A 4 Year University In Yuma

There seems to be plans for a university in Yuma. There seems to be a blessing from both UA and ASU. Could be a 4 year school. Could the downtown buildings be revitalize to serve a 4 year school? Could Arizona Western be merged as part of the system? AWC do offered more than 12 Bachelor degrees in partnership with UA and ASU. The state seems to blessed Yuma to get more funding for AWC with the help of all 3 D1 schools.

The article is from the AWC STUDENT-run media station and is nearly 2-years-old (March 2017). It is just an idea at this point; there are no plans. UofA and ASU have not blessed this; there was only initial interest. Show a link to something a little more official, like maybe from the State Board of Higher Education.

And the main blessing would be from NAU, who runs most of the degree programs in Yuma. UA is limited in Yuma to the Ag degrees (part of UA's statewide mission as the Ag Extension for the entire state, they have office on NAU's campus, etc). ASU offers a limited number of degrees that NAU doesn't offer.

The question with the number of degrees already offered in Yuma by the state's three universities is would a formal Umbrella University be better, or a downtown cluster where the state's three universities would continue to offer individual degrees (Ag from UA, a few from ASU, the rest from NAU).

If Kingsville and Corpus Christi merged into TAMU Gulf Coast the Kingsville football team could be FCS and a member of the Southland.

Plus, the team would not have to go through the 7 year wait either. Since Corpus Christie ia already D1. When UTRGV named changed with the merger, they were also to be able to compete in post season play. LIU-Post's football team next year under LIU-Brooklyn would be able to go to the FCS playoffs next year if they win the NEC. LIU-Post made it to the playoffs in D2 this year. They are usually a very good team.

Quote:Mayor Nicholls says he has initial interest from Arizona's State Universities...

Nicholls......all said the same thing, they want to do what's best for Yuma...:14

That is the quote from the Mayor of Yuma. That means all three universities are interested in the project. The 3 large universities are complaining about the Community Colleges in Arizona are getting education fundings from the state. They pulled some strings to cut fundings being sent to the community colleges in the Phoenix area. The on reason why the Phoenix area community colleges dropped football? It was because they used some of the state funding to buy insurance for the school, and it is expensive which is why they dropped football to save money on insurance. Eastern and Western did get some extra money from the state because of the degrees which includes Bachelor degrees in several key areas from Criminal, agri, science, medical and so forth. From what I understand from the article, AWC would help making the University to happened. The 3 schools do realized that that part of the state is the fastest growing part of the state, and would need a 4th university down the road. Building 1 in Yuma would be like the next Boise State who were once a junior college.

Private Colleges Fail, In Debt

This article came out last year. 177 private colleges which 112 are not for profit are in danger. Several on the list already closed down like Dowling, Mount Ida, Saint Gregory's, Bacone and others. If a school have a 1.5 or below are failing. bacone had a 1.7 rating, but still closing. Here are some schools that could be the next ones to close which some do play D1 sports.

Adrian College 1.2
Alderson Broaddus 0.4
Alliant International -0.4 was a former NCAA D1 under another name.
Arkansas Baptist 0.3 HBCU junior College
Azusa Pacific 1.5
Belmont Abbey 1.6 on the edge
Bethany Kansas 0.6 NAIA
Bethel Indiana 0.7 NAIA
Bethel Kansas 0.6 NAIA
Bethel Tennessee 1.4
Caldwell 1.5
Carson-Newman 1.4
Chestnut Hill 1.7
Columbia College, SC 1.4
Ecclesia 1.3 NAIa
Emmanuel -0.9 D2 could be the next to close.
Finlandia 1.1
Green Mountain 1
Hannibal-La Grange 1.4
Hillsdale free Will Baptist in Moore, Oklahoma 0.8
Hiram 1.1
Howard
Huntington Indiana 1.7
Iowa Wesleyan 0.6
Kansas Christian 1.2
Kentucky Wesleyan 1.3
Keystone College 0.4
Lake Erie 1.3
MidAmerica Nazarene 1.3
Morthland 1.7 in a holding pattern to reformed the school.
Multumuh 0.8
Newberry 1.8
Notre Dame, Ohio 1.6
Ohio Valley -1
Ottawa Kansas 1
Paine 1.7
Pine Manor 1.2
Quincy 1.8
Rochester, Mich. -0.1
St. Joseph's, NY 1.9
Saint Martin's 1.6
Saint Xavier 1.7
Salem International 1.5
Selma 1.9
Shorter 1.3
Sierra Nevada 1.8
Southern Vermont 1.1
Spring Hill 1.4
Sterling 1.9
Thomas More 1.6
U. of Mobile 1.2
Westminster, MO. 1.1
Wheeling Jesuit U.1.5
Wilberforce 1.3

All this are private schools. This does not show how bad the public school's debts are. 3 is perfect record that a lot of d1 and D2 schools have. between 1.5 to 2.0 is on the border of failure. Below 1.5 gets a school a fail grade. A lot of schools that closed in recent years have a fail grade below 1.5 except for Bacone who had a 1.7. People who are saying Howard going to the Big South may have to rethink that they might have to go down to D2 or something. Usually a school's debt decides where a school moves to like Thomas More dropping back down to NAIA. There are chatter that Kentucky Wesleyan would be moving back down to NAIA. So far, only Howard at the D1 level seems to be borderline of moving towards rock bottom. This could be also the next big realignment talks that have to do with the small private schools who have major debt. I think Presbyterian should be on the watch list as well. They are the smallest in D1. Bacone had a similar size enrollment as Presbyterian,

If Southern Vermont drops athletics then what has this all been about.

Compare what the mayor said to what you wrote. Initial interest does not equal giving their blessing nor does it equal continued interest in the idea nearly 2 years later.
