I've never really understood the cons use of alt-left, because they use it without distinction. Alt-right was a term to try and separate the growing conspiratorial, white power conservative movement from the more traditional, mainstream conservative base. Sean Hannity coined the phrase "alt-left" with zero context other than a smug repudiation of the the distinction within the conservative movement... which seems odd. I'd think the traditional conservatives would want to be distinguished from the fringe... but many not.
