She was great at making you feel like a part of the Huskie family.

I liked Cary Groth but she probably stayed too long and accepted rather than challenged limitations. For example Jim Phillips tossed the plans he inherited for the Yordan Center and replaced them with something much bigger and better.

Cary did love NIU and served us well.

STF is Ultra secretive. We have no idea if any coaches have received extensions. That is not right.

Yes. I would not buy a car from STF. That's for sure

Yes, I still don't know if Carey's contract was extended 2 years, as I heard from someone in the know at one of the final basketball games.

I think That's just the type of person she is. She was always super enthusiastic and was glad to see me during my school years ...

Or when coaches are dismissed.....the secrecy behind the whole Kathy Bennett separation/agreement was odd. Being that these are all really state employees there should be some transparency.

My gut feeling is the Bennett dismissal silence might have been HIPPA related.

Nah. A 20 month payout and for Kathi not to discuss “either internal operations nor personnel matters related to the Employer, Athletics, or any other internal University department thereof with other NIU employees, media reporters, the public, former employees, future employers, or any other third party,” throws HIPAA out the window. Unless, of course, STF was the sick man in the situation, of which she legally couldn’t speak. If it were HIPAA related to her, she could definitely speak. Don’t forget, Deb Whitman also was terminated during this action.

What would his answer be to a question of "what were your accomplishments while @ NIU?"

I think he's a good enough guy but, the answer to this question has me believing the interview will be short.

Agreed, when you think about it what has he really done to advance our athletic department? NIU student-athletes already had a previous track record of being successful in the classroom and having high APR scores. But we've done very little facility upgrades in his time, haven't heard of him reeling in any big donors, no naming rights sponsorship, we've lost having games on CSN Chicago, we lost our radio rights on the largest Chicago land sports radio network, we have less and less football home games, and we have two stagnant head coaches in football and men's basketball ...
This is my point. He really has left no mark, has no body of work. The only real area of influence I can recall is trying to eliminate himself as a D-1 AD, via his move to downgrade the mid-majors.

I would genuinely wish him the best of luck. There are plenty just like him who could drive our Yugo, with the same lackluster results.

And declining football attendence. Though i will give him credit for his scheduling.

A Yugo reference! That's a new one for this board!!
How many on this board even know what a Yugo was?

I heard they want him since he has a lot of experience at schools with 1/2 filled stadiums and rennovations. They avg about 25k a game (a whopping 22k vs, OK) in a 50k stadium in 2017. That's prime situation for 100million or so in rennovations.

I will say one thing about STF, he did bring us the Utah game this year, and that is more than any AD has done here in about 15 years. A low bar yes, but thanks for that! I do not blame him at all for not being able to fulfill the grand facility visions, we are lucky to have a D1 program still with the catastrophic budget issues. My biggest gripe with him is the way he treats every day fans, never have seen an AD have that much disdain for the common fan.

Also totally false. I can’t believe this garbage. I have seen him spend lots of time talking to “common fans” when he didn’t have to. Have you ever tried?

Yes. and he blocked me on twitter
lol - makes me like him better. He is a very approachable guy and seems to love NIU athletics. You're too negative and I would block you also if you tweet the same things to him as you do on here.

Keep it simple guys. The main job of the athletic director is to raise money and create successful football and men's basketball programs.
SF has failed to raise money.
SF has a above average football team.
SF basketball team is a disaster.

Follow the money.

Lucky you didn't ask if more donor events will be held on Saturdays, or he may have had you arrested.
