I stand corrected, y’all will get 1m for the game.

Very happy to hear. Glad our schedule isn't being rearranged tbh. Kinda feels like we're robbing y'all though

Well maybe you should just let us win then.

I am surprised there is no return game. We have not shown the inclination to have buy G5 games, with a special case to ODU. Maybe Texas State wanted the money more than the home game.

Guess yall are getting desperate. There's no way yall would prefer paying that much over a return trip.

It wasn’t really desperation. We got a buy game from UCF and decided to use that money to send to you.

Maybe so, but why not keep the money and get an away game from us? Or charge us less, like you have with other G5s apparently? I'm not complaining though, very happy with how this worked out for us, the whole situation just seems weird to me though.

We haven’t really done that much (paying people). I think the only ones were y’all, ODU and Marshall (like 500k to offset their travel for H&H). Idk the real reasons behind why they did it but it was probably dealing with some of the 2 for 1 we’ve done with P5 teams. We needed the home game but not the away.

Makes sense. Are most of your P5 series uneven or are they mostly h/hs? if not then I guess y'all will have a lot of G5 buy games in the future.

As of right now, our P5 series seem to be uneven, but I think tht's where we've filled in with FCS & G5 games H/H series. I think that's pretty common with most young/G5 schools, & it helps us fill out future away schedules.

I think questions about realignments have kept a lot of schools like ourselves from committing to too many future games, but it is good that we've been able to make things work so far. And who knows maybe this establishes a channel where Texas State & us have a future H/H series, since we've already scheduled an individual game together.

Yes its common for to G5s to have uneven series with P5s but its different with yall because y'all have a lot more of them than most G5s since yall are indy. For instance if a school has one uneven series they make up for it by scheduling an fcs game, but you can only do that once. If a school was to have more uneven p5 games in a short period of years they have to buy another game somehow. Like you did with us. Maybe your schedule isnt all that uneven though and it wont be a common occurance.

That’s what I’m thinking. They are extremely interested in making sure there is at least one quality home game per year. By doing that we pieced together what we could initially. Our schedules are becoming much more balanced past 2024. I think this is mostly do what we need to in the short term.

Pretty happy with this as our FCS game. I imagine JMU is happy as well.

I'm sure the Dukes are excited about this especially in their sports forums (a lot of them are not ).

I'd rather not play JMU but it will be nice to extend our winning streak over them and have an easy break in the middle of the season before final month.

RE: FUTURE FOOTBALL SCHEDULES
Since we’re bound to have an FCS game each year, who’d you rather it be, a slaughter game that we can run up the score and statistics, a close to home regional game, a well respected FCS program, a Big South/UAC team, or an FCS program from a big time recruiting hotbed?

Slaughter game- any low level FCS team
Regional game- JMU, Richmond, W&M, Hampton, Norfolk St.
Well Respected- JMU, North Dakota St., Montana, Jacksonville St, etc.
Big South/UAC- North Alabama, Kennesaw St., Stetson
Recruiting Hotbed- FL, GA, NC, AL, VA, TX, CA, OH, LA

RE: FUTURE FOOTBALL SCHEDULES
Give me a slaughter game against a school in a recruiting hotbed. I'll take the easy win, the additional reps for players who typically wouldn't play so they are more prepared when they do get important playing time, rest for starters, and hopefully we make an impact for recruiting.

Recruiting wise I think this is the perfect FCS opponent but its a big risk/reward. Lets be real they probably go after the same recruits yall do. If you beat them in a packed house it proves yall are on another level. Now if you lose well..... yeah.

For us things are a bit different. The fcs schools in TX dont really compete with us for recruits so we go for the bottom feeder HBCUs in the hopes that we can impress recruits with a big win in front of a decent crowd.

Playing HBU, ACU, or IWU as a gimme win from a school in TX will do nothing for you in the eyes of Texas recruits. The only kids that might remotely pay attention to them are the ones getting recruited hard by them and you dont want to go after those kids. Most casual fans cant even tell what division those schools play in.

RE: FUTURE FOOTBALL SCHEDULES
In theory, we should be considerably better than JMU in 2026 so long as we still have Freeze or replace him with a decent Coach. It should still be a good game vs. the typical FCS opponent that most no longer care about. Another thing to consider is whether or not JMU will still be FCS then and whether or not we'll still be independent. There's a decent possibility of both schools improving our situations.

As far as the annual FCS game, I'd rather we just continue playing a VA or NC school and/or KSU, UNA, and Chuck South. I don't think any home FCS game really helps us with recruiting. The VA and NC schools may help with attendance some and because it's good to be a good neighbor. The other 3 just because of our relationships with them. Although, I don't know if Chuck South had anything to do with our hasty exit from the Big South or not.
