Shakeup to Men's Basketball Conference Scheduling?
https://www.statesboroherald.com/sports/...-schedule/

Sun Belt dynamic scheduling proposal

• Partnering with other conference(s) to match-up games with similarly rated opponents.
• break into divisions - play each division foe twice; opposite division teams once; freeze standings upon completion of this process
• divide teams into 4 - 3 team pods for the last two weeks (1-3; 4-6; 7-9; 10-12) teams in each pod play the other two home and home to boost strength of schedule and to avoid bad losses to bottom dwellers)
• Reduce post-season tournament participation to 10 teams
• Games leading up to the tournament quarter-finals to be played at campus sites to boost attendance and reduce expense of lightly attended post-season tournament.
•Top 2 seed automatically placed in semi-finals
• Seeds 3 & 4 automatically placed in quarter-finals

Quote:Conference USA is expected to announce a schedule similar to this structure in the near future, and with the Sun Belt currently hosting its year-end meetings, a shakup to Georgia Southern’s scheduling future might not be far off

This makes way too much sense.

Mark Adams laid out the whole proposal on Twitter months ago... it sounded like a great plan then. Follow him and check it out: @EnthusiAdams

Last I heard was that CUSA at a minimum was going to roll out the 3rd bullet, and it was supposed to start this upcoming season.

The problem with the top 4 playing each other late in the season still is that more than likely none of the top 4 except 1 at most will have an RPI deserving of an at large bid.

Gimmick scheduling never works. Why even have a tournament if the top two seeds are automatically in the semis. Just have the top two teams play and call it quits.

I don't have a problem with divisions, but the rest of it sucks.

You want a stronger conference. Kick some of the bottom dwellers out. Get the league down to eight strong teams.
