I had a conference coach tell me a few years back that he'd choose game 1 or two every single time. More likely to get the game in before the afternoon storms of the South inevitably pop up, and more rest if you win.

Game 3 makes more sense than game 4 to me because you're still more likely to get the game in, and if you lose the turnaround isn't the 12 hour mess that the loser of game 4 gets. Essentially the host team puts extra pressure on themselves to win game 1, and more issues with rain and storms on the plate in exchange for a "home field advantage" that for much of the league might be 1000 fans.

I get the argument for playing at 4 instead of 7:30.

But not on turf.

It's going to be 115 degrees on the field when Troy and Texas State play on Wednesday.

Our games are played at 6:00 on Saturday after April 1.

And Sunday is at 1. Hottest time for turf is 4.

You don't play at that time if you can avoid it. Can't always do so, but in a tournament format where teams could play as many as six games, it can take a toll.

I’ve seen that 7:30 game start late into the night too many times for me to choose if my choice.

So...out of morbid curiosity, what is the weather forecast in Lafayette this week?

It's not ideal... but maybe that plays into Troy's favor some since Troy is used to playing on a turf that gets hot. Texas State is used to a natural grass field.

So... does that mean Cajun fans will be calling for the tournament to never come back and trashing their administration for not being able to control the weather?

I still remember fielding questions about the ‘mishandling’ of last year’s tournament when there were two straight days where the entirety of the gulf and southeast was getting dumped on with heavy rain.

Yep. We won't be hosting again. Neither will you.

Damn, you GS folk sure are sensitive.

Please don’t mistake me for someone who believe that the opinions of Cajun fans have anything to do with future hosting sites. It was just a jab at people who are dumb enough to place blame on the weather.

If we do get a lot of rain, it will be interesting to see how the field will handle it. I've seen it drain exceptionally well in the past following heavy rains.

Tuesday should be good.
40% scattered thunderstorms Wednesday.
50% scattered thunderstorms Thursday.
60% scattered thunderstorms Friday.
80% thunderstorm Saturday.
60% scattered thunderstorms Sunday.

Weather will play a role in the tournament yet again.

Who's weather are you looking at? Our local weather has the following;

30% Partly sunny/popup shower for Tuesday
30% Partly sunny/PM showers for Wednesday
40% Scattered thunderstorms for Thursday
40% PM Thunderstorms for Friday
30% Partly sunny/popup shower for Saturday
30% Partly cloudy/Isolated shower for Sunday

I don't disagree that weather may affect the tournament, but our field is playable VERY quickly.

So, basically like every other city in the South at this time of year?

The real key isn't rain, it's lightning. You can't play with lightning within 8 miles of an area. Scattered storms leads to a lot of fun weather delays where you get held up for 2 hours when its not even raining.

RE: Baseball Tournament Bracket Released
It's not a question on the playability of the field ... as Chief said, lightning and downpours that keep games delayed or from starting and pushing everything back will be the problem.
