The politics of dealing with the Razorbacks are often discussed here. So does the UA deal with War Memorial to play one game through 2024 hurt or help UALR attempts to start fb?

UALR won't be starting football either way.

Well the people who might have chipped in as an eff u to UAF won't be so inclined to do so.

The real issue for UALR is operating funds. They have to make a pretty significant infrastructure investment (weight, training, offices, meeting space, practice field) and probably can find people willing to put money into those things even though it means baseball may not get the new stadium.

The real challenge is operating revenue.

UALR would need $10 million more than they make now, every single year to fund a competitive program.

Finding capital funds is a totally different issue than operating funds.

UALR has a higher athletic fee than AState or UCA, for comparison their current athletic fee per hour is what UTSA increased their fee to in order to add football and unlike UTSA, the fee doesn't cap at 15 hours.

Then there is Title IX. UALR already isn't in an ideal Title IX situation at 14 sports. They are adding wrestling so that balance tilts worse. Throw football into the mix and it gets positively bad.

Means little. They are not starting football. Some Little Rock business types tried to get them to consider starting the sport as a way to force the Razorbacks to re up games there. Even if the Razorbacks had declined, There was never going to be UALR Football.

I tend to believe it is a net positive, in that the State will now have to make 15 million or so in improvements to make "our" home stadium to meet SEC requirements. Never would have done that just for UA-Little Rock and the stadium would have continued to decline. So we will have a stadium that meets SEC standards ready to go, a couple of miles from our campus. That's the good news. I tend to agree with the ASU posters that football is quite unlikely to happen. But, I do believe that the 100K study was done in good faith and a final decision won't made until after the results from the study are in.
