When I was at the school in 2013 and still living in Charlotte in 2014 - UNCC blocked out a chunk of the limited capacity as student tickets because student fees helped get the program over the finish line at the start, when students don't use their ticket quota, the stadium sits short of capacity.
I think by creating more seating options, including club seats and suites, this allows the school's athletic department to market to the expansive business community in greater Charlotte. Plus, with more general seats, the student section is a smaller percentage of the stadium's capacity and allows for a greater push for season seats and casual fans from the alumni/charlotte region without infringing on the number of seats reserved for the student body.

What teams don't have seats reserved for their students? And it's not like UNC Charlotte was full-to-bursting minus the student section.

How is it having to play in a baseball stadium? Serious question, not trying to troll.
Do not forget this was originally an olympic stadium.
There are enough pics of the renovation on this feed. Very economical way to get a stadium of their own. Does the old RF upper deck look odd? Sure, but it is never used so not a huge deal.
Actually it's pretty cool and you bring up an excellent point about why I would leave the upper deck intact. I feel like the issue is reconfiguring the lower level concourse on the east side and building a second level to the "new" east side stands and filling the hole in former RF and covering the lower level RF stands and completing the return to the Olympic stadium orientation and configuration.

Once Charlotte joined CUSA with ODU, it was a foregone conclusion that ONLY ONE of them would get to move up to the AAC.
For Charlotte (and ODU if they would've gotten the ticket to the party), playing ECU, Temple, NAVY, (historical foes) USF, Memphis, Tulane, etc, is HUGE..
Charlotte will bring in more fans rapidly now that they see themselves in the same standings as the Pirates.
ECU's huge stadium serves as a competitive benchmark that CLT fans will aspire to until they can get there.

I expect them to average around what they had for their first P5 home game, ~14K against Duke. If you can't sell out your dinky 15K stadium against an in-state P5 opponent then I don't see how you do double that against teams like Tulane, Temple, Tulsa, FAU, USF, etc.

The time lapse construction shots were neat. The dump trucks take a dump, and then graders spread it out.
When Rice Stadium was built, Brown & Root used double shifts. When asked whether the stadium would be ready, they asked what time the game would be played. Since it was a night game they were able to finish.
Miami is getting a new turf (old one was in rough shape, it was around since 2010). Next biggest priority is renovation the basketball arena, but there have been plans to add suites/club seating to our football stadium at some point.
-Opening 2026
-Construction starting in 2024
-35K capacity (think SDSU Snapdragon stadium). Could change slightly.
-Includes a football operations center facility (likely)
-Near under construction IPF
-USF to now get proposals from Design/Construction companies
-Company likely to be selected Sep 6th
-Rendering should come then
