Are there any BSC teams that are expansion worthy? Or teams from other similar conferences?

A-SUN from north to south.
1. NJIT - Newark, NJ
2. Liberty - Lynchburg, VA
3. Lipscomb - Nashville, TN
4. North Alabama - Florence, AL
5. Kennesaw - Kennesaw, GA
6. Jacksonville - Jacksonville, AL
7. North Florida - Jacksonville, FL
8. Stetson - Deland, FL
9. FGCU - Ft. Myers, FL
FIFY

It’s not Alabama. Jacksonville is in FL, not Jacksonville State, which is in AL.

Just an option: UNC Pembroke and/or USC Aiken

UNCP has a really nice basketball facility plus they play football so they could help out in the BSC. USCA is similar to UNCP except no football. Both have decent programs and are up and coming schools that would provide a closer team.

My apologies. Cant imagine why you'd want them unless it's simply for recruiting

I really don't think the A-Sun invites anyone else from the Big South. It would hurt the relationship between the A-Sun and Big South for the football deal. The A-Sun will not want to lose anyone else because they don't have a n option for football.

Some schools I have heard may be on the short list, and a few I just think would fit.

Morehead State
Jacksonville State
Austin Peay
New Orleans

Possible D2 schools
West Georgia
West Florida
North Greenville
UNC Pembroke

Some I would like
William and Mary
Elon

I can’t imagine an OVC team would move to the A-Sun. Wouldn’t that be considered a step down? Pretty much for our region I’d expect the BSC and MEAC teams would be tbe only ones willing to move to the A-Sun. The A-Sun has shown they will accept Div. II teams moving up.

Just for the sake of typing, I address my opinion on the A-Sun board.

A good read from ASOR…..

ASUN move seen as one to increase Liberty’s brand.

“Going from the Big South, which is a compact league in just 3 mid-Atlantic states, to the ASUN, which covers most of the Southeast and even the New York City market, will help expand the Liberty brand exponentially.”

“Liberty’s new home resides in six states and features eight of the top-80 media markets in the nation. ‘The fact that we’re in the Atlanta market, Jacksonville, Fort Myers, Nashville, Stetson splits Daytona Beach and Orlando, and Florida is such a growing, wealthy area for whatever you’re looking for,’”

I hope we can get Jax State from the OVC. Really solid sports across the board. Huge fan base with great facilities. Austin Peavy would be a solid add as well.

I wouldn't mind making a trip to New Orleans although I don't know how good their sports are.

UNO would be a great trip. NOLA is one of my favorite culinary cities. But I seriously doubt we will ever be in the same league together.

I think a key is finding schools that fit but also dominate the city they are in. FGCU is in a midsize city and they run it. Same thing in Lynchburg. I would try to find schools that could fit that. Let me look at a map and I’ll post some suggestions. If not that then go for schools in large markets.

Francis Marion University in Florence SC. There would be no competition for game day and the school has potential.

Basketball Arena seats almost 2500
Baseball and Softball both have really nice stadiums

RE: A-SUN bound
I posted these articles on the ASUN board and thought I should include them on the LU board. Here are three articles about the Liberty Flames move to the ASUN.

“Atlantic Sun adding Liberty University, giving FGCU's conference nine members. "They've been pretty much the dominant team in the Big South in terms of all-sports trophies."

Liberty Athletics moving to ASUN Conference for 2018-19 season. "During its 27-year membership in the Big South Conference, the Flames claimed a conference-record 13 Big South Sasser Cup trophies, an annual award given to the conference’s most successful athletics program."
(Note: it was recently announced that LU won another Sasser Cup so I think LU is now at 14)

Liberty University joins the ASUN Conference. "After the induction of Liberty into the conference, the league resides in six states and features eight of the top 80 media markets in the nation."

Also, there is a very informative quote from Slyfox…
“"Clearly from a competitive standpoint, these are the sports where we receive a significant shot in the arm from the move up along with men's golf where we upgrade to the 9th best league from the 15th (the swap with Upstate might have the league as high as 8th now). Men's soccer has slight edge (19th to 21st) while on the ladies' side it is tougher to get quantifiable numbers but they appear to be comparable leagues. On the flip side, volleyball is a bit weaker ranking 20th in comparison to 17th for Big South."

You guys have to forget about and get over the idea that all sports including football are going to CUSA or the SBC or any other major conference.

1. We are 100% committed to independence in football. We like an independent schedule better than a SBC schedule and better than CUSA even. We can still schedule CUSA and SBC teams (we are), while ALSO scheduling marquee independent matchups with the likes of BYU, Army, etc...not to mention ACC schools.

2. Thus, considering the commitment to football independence, a league without football is a perfect landing spot. The ASUN offers everything...a great home for Oly sports and the ability for football to stay independent. Add in a better basketball, baseball, and softball league, plus the larger markets and proximity to LU alumni...its a no brainer.

Football independence > CUSA, SBC, etc.

Would you change your mind if it was the AAC?

A hefty dose of realism is important here. The SBC didn’t want us. CUSA didn’t want us. We are a long way from the AAC, even in terms of budgets (at the high end). UConn spends 80 million a year on athletics. While we COULD do as much, I am not sure we would WANT to do it, as much of it would need to be subsidized by the university. I mentioned the SBC and CUSA specifically - I don’t see us moving for them. IF we were to make an all sports move (including football), it would have to be for the AAC or above. MAC, SBC, CUSA...those ships sailed long ago - good riddance. We are several notches above those conferences.

The AAC is great if no one leaves. I don't think the AAC will be as attractive with two or three of the better schools gone. That's my long term concern.

I don’t know... If you took two or three of these teams away I’d still say they were easily better than MAC, C-USA, or SBC, especially since they would simply take the strongest of those conferences to fill the gap.
