since the games are scheduled years in advance there is no basis in fact or logic in your statement

UTk is stupid not to play us.

There aren't that many alumni here. That's a myth. Maybe %5 of their graduates move here.

They have made strategic decisions to not invest in the medical school, or at least spend more of the medical school money in Knoxville and Nashville. It doesn't produce that many alumni anyway, and most of the people who attend are Memphis and Rhodes undergraduates anyway.

They have a graying fanbase here that doesn't ever get to see them play. The young fanbase are mostly suburbanites/rural fans who are as likely to support Ole Miss or Alabama. When I'm in Ripley, I see as many Alabama fans as UTk.

Not to mention. East Tennessee doesn't have the best reputation in Memphis anymore because they want to be stuck in the 1800s.

They had a brand here that they built by playing here.

So it's not easy to get home/home with P5 schools - even those wanting to have a presence here? It's a nice payday in home attendance once a decade. Would love to beat them. But it's not like we really need them. Keep building the program our way.

Contrary to the likings of some around here...For once, we are building a football program that is not dependent upon the table scraps tossed to us from UTK or Old Miss. They don't want consistent home/homes? We can offset the gate with 7 home games, building fans who want to see us play, and increasing our chances of a bigger bowl payout.

Unfortunately for basketball, with the attendance drop-off the past few years, we need ticket sales that can be bumped with these regional rivalries. And they are willing to do it. For the first time in a long time, I am not concerned about UTK out-recruiting Penny in Memphis.

We should play them every year in Nashville. The Governor should be in attendance.

P5 schools break up non-P5 games anytime they want to. Scheduling years ahead is meaningless for them. If they want to dump a game they do.

You must mean football. Neither Ray Mears nor Don Devoe would consider playing us in basketball during the Bartow or Kirk eras because they knew they were in store for an a$$ whipping if they did.

I would go out a limb and say that Wayne Yates' teams with James Bradley, John Gunn and Alvin Wright would have beaten the Ernie and Bernie show.
