I’m optimistic that with a legit MBB coach with a proven track record, the wins will come and so will the student attendance. Student section should be the primary harassers, not the pep band. I mean, we became pros at it, but it doesn’t have to be that way if you have a rabid student section.

Nice video tour by Coach O and Coach B. Still seems like they have a bunch of work left to do before the building is finished. In the home stretch now!!

Looks like they are getting ready to pave or pour concrete for the main entrance plaza area. Also noted that they have installed outdoor tables and chairs and what looks like a bike rack in the front of the new Phillips Hall. Looks very nice with all the landscaping done.

I was thinking there is still quite a bit left as well, but not sure how old the video was, and I'm guessing, at soonest, the first game would not be until 2021.

Interior rendering probably used in the seat selection system

yeah that's pretty beautiful..and so super purpley

looks like there are bleachers in two corners - I know that one is for our band, but the other? Curious if it's for visiting fans, visiting band, or JMU students? This map shows students with our band...and that other area as GA - not sure why it's bleachers, anyone?

That corner opposite the band is part of the retractable seating system. Sections 110, 111, 112, and a portion of 113 are retractable for other events. I think they are all bench seating (like the band) so that's why they're general admission. Updated seat map below.

thank you - that map is great.

I do wish they had the band and students on opposite ends (ok, and students at court level on one side) - nevertheless, this is looking like a great place and potentially a good year for MBB

I don't agree. The band and students need to be located close together. Programs with good student sections tend to feed off the energy/antics of the pep band.

The best model for energy is Duke's layout where students are next to each other in a ring around the whole place. Then the energy spreads into the rest of the crowd also. Hopefully what we have will work well, but it isn't ideal. It looks to me like JMU felt it was better to monitize more of the prime seats.

A lot of schools new arenas have that model.

I think best practices kinda went out the window when we agreed to put another Division 1 university's name on our court. It stands to reason that financial considerations are numbers 1, 2, 3 & 4. Atmosphere is probably number 5...maybe.

Mostly agree but Duke is it's own animal where student demand far exceeds supply. Student tickets are like the black market, students selling their tickets to other students for a lot of money. Cameron only seats a little more than 9000. Non students donate around $20K per year for about 10 years while you're on the wait list. Once seats are available, Four season tickets will cost you another $10K

Looks like they have started laying sod next to the building along the Carrier Drive side of the building.

section 111 says General Admission now, but that can easily be converted to reserved student section at any time.

need to show the demand from students is their first.

The curtain wall on the Carrier Drive side of the building roof area is going up. This will hide all the HVAC units and other miscellaneous stuff up on the roof.

Also looks like all the landscaping on the Carrier Drive side of the building is done. Looks very nice!!

Hope the finish work on the inside is going well. Would be nice to get some updated photos of the work.

How cool would it be if they could get the inside done enough (and safe enough) to have Frog Week there instead of the Convo? Freshmen getting the first looks?
