All the debris from Blue Ridge Hall has been removed from the site. Looks like they are starting to move some dirt around.

Time to get the hardhat out!!

RE: Union Bank & Trust Center Webcam
Are we happy with the baseball facilty that $10 million built? I think that is an example of poor use of money.

This new arena is the most expensive athletic facility JMU has ever built and it has to be great. If not, it is a 40 year mistake that you have to live with.

I fully understand this is not only going to be a basketball only facilty. The question is, who is paying for it? The secondary fund raising has been going for awhile and reminder mailings came out this week. It was titled “An opportunity to make an impact”. The only thing mentioned is regarding the basketball programs and how donations can further the cause.

Where is the community support? How much of the cost is for athletics and how much is for academic graduations or public concerts/trade shows?
It seems that others should be footing part of the bill if they are expecting to benefit.

If all of the fundraising is going through the Duke Club, then I think we have a big miss. I would love to hear Harrisonburg/Rockingham county has committed $20 million to the new arena and considers it a joint venture with the university.

I hope that all on this board will give for the good of the cause. If you don’t, then you are part of the problem for JMU basketball. But I sense that There are not nearly enough who care.

One thing to consider is that ODU has an 8,500 seat arena also used for concerts, shows, etc.
The Hampton Roads market is more than 10X larger than the Harrisonburg market. Is 8,500 too big for little ol’ Harrisonburg?

Sensera cam getting a good line on the excavation getting started on the east end of the site today. Trucks lined up to haul excavated dirt over toward old blue ridge hall crater as they work to level the site grade.

Looks like they are laying a lot of PVC pipe in a trench at the edge of the site. Anyone have any idea what that is all about? Gotta find my hardhat and get down there!!

RE: Union Bank & Trust Center Webcam
There is a major electric duct bank that ran around the outside of the soccer field. If you look on the webcam over the last week or two there's something looking like a plywood sign that says "duct bank". It services a lot of east campus buildings, and may even be the main feed to that side of campus. I'm thinking they have to relocate the whole bank in order to dig down to the elevation that the rest of the site is reaching.

A LOT of truck traffic in that area as they dig dig dig the top of that hill off. Many truck loads of dirt filling in the old blue ridge hall site and the newest east campus dorm site as they fill in where driver drive used to be.

The excavation visible on the sensera cam is where the road servicing the parking deck and parking lots will come out on University Blvd. Electric bank and storm water utilities being added there now.

It is becoming remarkably "flat" over there now.

Has Bridgeforth been flooded by an overflowing creek yet this month?

I'm not sure. I suspect they had some water, but actually JMU has had sandbags along the back of the stadium corner between the metal structure and the old concrete stands. Overall the field hasn't flooded like it used to, but seemingly everywhere else in town has.

Think the overflow into Newman Lake works better now that they shrunk it & fixed drainage.

If you're paying attention to the background of Cam #2 (SBBallard), you can see how they have trucked it down the road and over to the former softball field spot and cleared land to build the land bridge.

so much dirt. and they haven't made grade yet!
