Charlotte goes 1-2-3 in the men's 5K so they have clinched the men's title. Rice is still hanging on for 2nd with 2 events to go I think (4x400 and HJ). We could use a point or two in those events but maybe we still will finish 2nd because we're up a few points on both UTEP and USM (although USM has the favorite in HJ for sure).

Men finish tied for 4th (Charlotte wins with 149, USM 2nd at 110, UTSA 3rd at 109, and Rice tied with Western Kentucky at 105). A solid performance, although unlike the women, the Owls have a lot of seniors who scored the bulk of the points for them so I hope they have a good recruiting class coming in.

Women finish 3rd with 106 points (1 more point than the men). USM wins with 131 points, followed by Middle Tennessee State with 116. Like the men, a solid performance. As I said earlier, we have mostly underclass athletes who were scoring points (outside of 2 seniors in PV), so the team should be even better next year. But we probably could use a thrower or two.

Sadly, unless baseball gets to the conference tournament (and wins it), we're likely looking at 0 conference championships this year for the Rice athletic department. That probably hasn't happened since 1995 at least.

Soccer won the regular season with a 9-0-1 record in C-USA?

Unless baseball goes on a run, Outdoor Track and Field will be the best performing men's team for Rice this academic year.

Yeah, either that or golf.

Those of you looking at results will see that Michael Saruni got 2nd to his teammate Koech in both the 800 and 1500. I was very disgusted because he just let Koech win. It was so obvious in the 800 because, in the last 100 meters, while Koech was working hard, Saruni was just jogging and closed the gap. He slowed to a crawl (for him) so as to avoid finishing in first. That's not sportsmanship to his teammate - I think it's insulting.

And, by the way, Amanda Gerlach was invaluable in helping out over the four days. Rick would have been so very proud.
