I guess App State earned points for having a newer park.

Since the SBC now has a history of taking over no longer needed MLB stadiums, maybe once the Rangers get their new stadium, UTA can just take over The Ballpark at Arlington. And, yes, I know it's not called that anymore, but that is what it will always be to me, that and I can't remember the corporate name...... 04-cheers

I plan to visit Clay Gould for the first time on Thursday for the TXST/UTA game. Excited to experience a new SBC venue for the first time.

Maybe we should pitch that to the UTA powers. UTA and LR start football, and we've have a nice conference, nice footprint, and an easy division split.

I believe UTA already has an on-campus football stadium (built shortly before the football program was discontinued.) I could be wrong but I think I saw that high school playoff games were held there.

UTA football just makes sense..especially if on-site stadium is already available. I cant imagine UTA is struggling financially. The school is located in a juicy market (Fort Worth/Arlington/Dallas)...so why not?

Maybe LR is a smaller school with smaller budget, but I doubt they're worse off than ULM. Maybe chip in a little to refurbish the War Memorial Stadium and use it as the home stadium?

We aren't rating the team's performance. We are rating the ballpark. We'll get dinged for turf, but who cares.

No you won't. You get points for turf. Just makes sense.

yes Maverick stadium is still there and is used regularly. It was well built when new, not a bunch of metal bleachers or anything like that. it has good lighting, the playing surface is replaced every now and then and the weight room and locker areas have been remodeled a cpl. times. it could be used tomorrow but would not be on par with a typical fbs stadium and would be a negative for recruiting without an endzone facility and nicer score board.

The point is you guys have a stadium, it could easily be brought up to FBS size as well as upgraded with those things you mentioned, I has plenty of room around input for that. Also, I like the setting of the stadium at the end of Greek Row. It's just wierd, you guys have everything but a team. 01-wingedeagle

Has there been any conversation around campus about restarting it???

every now and then a group forms to push the restarting of football and a few years ago the charging of a sports fee was approved by students for the restart of football but these movements always run out of steam after a while. the administration never gets on board with the idea so their momentum fades. yes the stadium is in a great location. in the old days the band and cheerleaders would march from the music building to the stadium down greek row picking up students and fans along the way. it was pretty cool. with over 41,000 students, uta is probably the largest brick and mortar university without a football program.

It would be so easy for UTA to get something going. The weird part is that UTA has a football stadium with no football team when a majority of the schools starting football have the opposite problem. With a few updates, a little more seating (in blue) and an endzone facility (in red), UTA could have an FBS ready stadium with minimal cost and effort. The track wouldn't even have to be disturbed and look at all that tailgating space to the north of the stands!

And, IIRC, there is parking lot left out on the bottom of that picture, south of the stadium. So more parking for talilgating. All the bones are there, just needs an administration to get behind it.

Went to my first game at Clay Gould tonight.

Cold Ziegen is a plus as OP says, but I only had one before they ran out and had to drink bud light the rest of the game...
I don't eat usually at games but seems like they were out of about everything. Kid in front of me started crying when they didn't have the first 3 things he ordered. Including popcorn. In the 1st inning...

Not a bad park, but nothing special. I'd say maybe 600-700 in attendance, but given they average around 400-500 maybe a good crowd tonight? PA guy is pretty good. Field is in good shape. I enjoyed the game overall, winning from start to finish probably helped.
